After several decades of development, the number and scale of our national colleges and universities have been effectively improved. But at the same time,in the process of development, private colleges and universities neglect their social responsibilities due to excessive pursuit of profits,so that they unwittingly lose their social image, pull down their social reputation, accumulate risks in running schools, and fall into the bottleneck of development. In recent years, social responsibility has been valued by more and more entrepreneurs.Entrepreneurs began to shift the standard of measuring the quality of the enterprise from the traditional focus on financial indicators to whether the company comprehensively considered all stakeholders, that is,whether they fulfilled their social responsibilities. At the same time,a large number of empirical studies have shown that in the long run, there is a positive correlation between corporate social responsibility and economic performance.Due to the natural nature of education, private colleges and universities,as a special enterprise, not only have the characteristics of“profit-seeking” of ordinary enterprises, but also shoulder the task of teaching and educating people and creating knowledge and other public welfare attributes. In development,we must not neglect social commitment.Instead,we should pay more attention to the fulfillment of social responsibility in development than the average enterprise. Therefore, under the background of implementing the strategy of "rejuvenating the country through science and education" and "strengthening the country with talents",only by integrating social responsibility into the development strategy of colleges and universities can we always maintain the competitive advantage of private colleges and universities, and promote the breakthrough bottleneck and high-quality development of private colleges and universities.Based on this, this paper studies how private colleges and universities implement the social responsibility-oriented development strategy, and takes the D College of Fujian Province as a concrete case study, which is of great significance for exploring how private colleges and universities develop healthily.Firstly,on the basis of combing relevant theories, the article introduces the concept of private colleges and universities, the concept of social responsibility,as well as Mixed Organization theory,Stakeholder theory,Resource Basic theory,Social Responsibility and Competitive Relationship theory,Carol Social Responsibility Oyramid Model and Clarkson RDAP mode.Secondly,on the basis of combing out the general situation of privatehigher education industry, this paper analyzes the external and internal development environment of D college, and finds that D college's current behavior conforms to the defensive social responsibility strategy and is difficult to adapt to the increasingly severe external environment, which is not conducive to its long-term development.Thirdly,Based on the relative variables of15 undergraduate colleges and universities in Fujian province from 2014 to 2018,this paper analyzes the influence of social responsibility on the development of private colleges by means of panel data regression analysis. Then, based on the empirical analysis, this paper proposes a social responsibility-oriented development strategy for D college. Finally,on the basis of the conclusion, the paper proposes that the relevant government departments should perfect the information disclosure system and the evaluation system of social responsibility of universities, and that private colleges and universities should change their thinking mode in order to raise their awareness of social responsibility.
