As the core literacy of mathematics is put forward,there is a higher requirement for students' ability to learn geometry.For instance,Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2011 Edition)requires strengthening the cultivation of students' geometric abilities.As we know,geometry knowledge is abstract and complex,so how to improve students' geometric thinking in teaching has become an urgent problem that is to be solved in the front-line teaching.Up to now,a large number of researches and studies have been conducted in the western theroies on geometry teaching,among which Van Hill Theory is a generally-accepted one.Fan Hill and his wife,based on their teaching practice,found that students have 5 different geometry thinking level,and then they proposed five teaching stages accordingly.This praper,guided by Van Hill theory and combining theory with teaching practice,try to analyse the problems in geometry teaching and propose some feasible teaching methods.First,the concepts of "geometry","geometric thinking level" and "geometry teaching stage" will be elaborated in this paper on the basis of relevant literature.Then students need to complete "middle school students' geometric thinking cognition tests" made by Usiskin accoeding to the mathematics test method.And then analysing the current level of geometric thinking of the eighth grade students based on students' tests,and choosing the class to carry out teaching practice and the control class.Finally,a two-hour teaching process is designed for the judgement of congruent triangle,combining the relevant content in the curriculum standards,the eighth grade mathematics textbook of the People's Education Edition and the five teaching stages of Fan Hill theory: namely "preschool consultation,guidance orientation,clarification,free orientation,integration",so as to conduct experimental research on geometry teaching.In order to verify the effect of Fan Hill's theory on the students' geometric thinking,tests on geometric thinking level of the experimental class and the control class are to be completed before the teaching experiment.Exercise tests are to be done by students after learning this chapter,by analyzing the data through SPSS22.0software and comparing with the traditional teaching,so as to obtain a feasible operation process.The research of this paper shows that teachers can know how well the students learn geometry through the level of geometry thinking.At the same time,teaching geometry knowledge in junior high school can also be guided by Fan Hill's theory of geometry teaching stage.
