Undergraduate research is an important approach for China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities.Because of the substantial support of government,Chinese universities have developed diverse undergraduate research programs,and an increasing number of undergraduates are involved in scientific research.It is proved both theoretically and empirically that undergraduate research is an effective way to cultivate innovation talents in higher education.From the students' perspective,this mixed research intends to illustrate and analyze how the impact of undergraduate research on the creative qualities of students is influenced by various student conditions,different learning environments,and distinctive types of projects,etc.Based on the cognitive apprenticeship theory framework,this study finds that undergraduate research can significantly improve students' creative qualities.In the cultivation of innovative talents,the role of hardware resources is not large,while training,guidance and communication play an important role.Interest-driven and energy input are also crucial.In addition,research self-efficacy factor plays mediating effect in the above process.Then this study puts forward recommendations for the advancement of undergraduate research programs and the improvement on talents cultivation in Chinese universities and colleges.
