Ye Shengtao was so fond of literature and gardens that he wrote the article Suzhou Gardens based on his deep love of it.Ye's high generalization ability and exquisite conception and writing perfectly illustrate why Suzhou gardens are like a perfect picture.Meanwhile,Suzhou Gardens is perfect in language carving,its language features can be summarized as accurate and rigorous,vivid and abundant,plain and elegant.It can be said that Suzhou Gardens is a model essay of the layout and language training in the text.It can be used as an important carrier for the study of the "single article" of explanatory teaching.This study collects and analyzes Suzhou Gardens from five editions of textbooks as well as 30 teaching cases from different places of mainland China from a variety of sources.Based on the analysis of the compilation of these teaching materials,the teaching objectives and teaching contents of the examples,this paper draws a conclusion that there are some problems in the teaching of Suzhou Gardens in Chinese teaching in middle schools at present,and probes into the causes of these problems.Accordingly,a series of suggestions on the teaching content of Suzhou Garden are put forward.There are not many studies on expositions teaching in the academic circle,among which there are abundant researches on Suzhou Gardens,focusing on its stylistic attribute,theme and artistic characteristics.First of all,in terms of stylistic attribute,it is the most representative and universal view and teaching method to classify Suzhou Gardens into exposition.There has never been much controversy about the research on the theme of Suzhou Gardens.It is mainly to express the author's love and memory for the hometown and Suzhou Gardens or to express the praise for the wisdom of the laboring people.In terms of artistic features,domestic studies are mainly focused on the three major aspects of illustration in structure and sequence,method and its function,language and its characteristics.This study makes a comparative analysis of the articles of Suzhou Gardens in the five editions of the textbook from five aspects,including unit arrangement,unit introduction,pre-class tips,after-class exercises and unit writing,in order to grasp the guidance and difference of five editions of the textbook in the teaching value of Suzhou Gardens.As a model essay of expository in the textbook,learning to read and write expository is the most important role of this text.Therefore,we can find in the five editions of textbooks that the editors regard “learning to read and write instructions” as an important direction of the teaching value of “this article”.Through the analysis of teaching cases,in the teaching design of Suzhou Gardens,there are the many problems in the teaching objectives.First,the objectives are dissociative,which are not the Chinese teaching target;Second,they are abound and varied,or confused and the expression is informal;Third,they are broad,which are suitable for most texts.At the same time,the problems of text interpretation and teaching contents are as follows,the interpretation of the text is simple,utilitarian and lacks exquisite taste of the language.Besides,the teaching contents deviate from the article.What's more,the teaching content deviates from the course standard,the study situation,the teaching goal and so on.The approach and principle to determine the teaching content of exposition can be divided into four steps: distinguishing the style,probing into the origin,determining the value and fixing the points.According to this approach and principle,this study proposes that the core teaching value of this article should be divided into four aspects: grasping the article's highly comprehensive intention,learning the tight and clear structure of illustration,figuring out the elegant and delicate language of illustration,and comprehending the integration of accumulation and creation.
