America is a country that values value education,which has been enduring since its independence.In the 1980 s,an educational reform led by the American education community,the New Character Education Movement,was an effective means to deal with the moral crisis and the frequent occurrence of juvenile delinquency in the United States.New Character Education is the main way to implement value education in the United States,and it has both a powerful theoretical foundation and an operable practical significance,which receives strong support from government departments.Therefore,American New Character Education has soon replaced the traditional character education,and has reinvigorated the education of American value education.Nationwide,from the federal government down to community families,it has launched a vigorous education campaign,and its effect is extremely significant thus the influence continues today.It has formed a complete set of educational theories and practices,and has accumulated a lot of experience and lessons in the field of value education.At the same time,the success of American New Character Education has provided strong support for other countries to draw on their theoretical and practical experience.Although China and the United States have great differences in many aspects such as politics,economy,culture,ideology,education,etc.,in terms of the value education for middle school students,American New Character Education can indeed be used for reference.This article conducts an in-depth study and analysis of American New Character Education,compares the commonalities and differences between the Chinese value education with American's.Based on the development of value education for middle school students in China,combined with the status quo and actuality of value education for domestic middle school students,we shall selectively learns from the experience of American New Character Education to achieve the purpose for our use.This article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter discusses the general situation of American New Character Education and Chinese middle school students' value education.This chapter first defines the two concepts of American New Character Education and Chinese middle school students' value education,then compares them,analyzes their commonalities and differences,and then elaborates the basis of Chinese middle school students' value education from both theoretical and practical aspects.The second chapter discusses the practice of American New Character Education.This chapter analyzes the specific implementation of American New Character Education,and summarizes the goals of American New Character Education from the three levels of individuals,society and the country;it combines the guidance documents issued by the authoritative character education institutions in the United States to clarify the widely implemented American New Character Education's principles and their evaluation standards;it summarizes the three characteristics of the content of American New Character Education,namely the inheritance of traditional virtues,the pursuit of value consensus and the cultivation of core values;it uses schools,families,and communities as the starting points to analyze the ways of American New Character Education and emphasizes that the three parties work together to maximize the effectiveness of character education;finally,it introduces the four most commonly used methods in American New Character Education.The third chapter discusses the evaluation of American New Character Education and the principles of reference in China.This chapter makes an objective evaluation of American New Character Education from all angles as far as possible,and analyzes the enthusiasm and limitations of its development so far.Secondly,it establishes the principles that Chinese middle school students' value education should adhere to when drawing on American New Character Education,which can get closer to China's reality and promote the development of the value education for middle school students in China.The fourth chapter discusses the inspiration of American New Character Education to Chinese middle school students' value education.This chapter is the most important and difficult point of the full text,and it is also the core.By studying American New Character Education,identifying effective factors in its implementation,and combining the specific analysis of its practice in the second chapter,it starts from optimizing school path,adopting life-based education,building a three-dimensional values education network,and improving the current evaluation these four aspects,to explore the reference and inspiration of American New Character Education to the value education for middle school students in China.
