The new character education,which has been developed since 1980 s,plays an important role in the history of American moral education.By criticizing and reflecting on the practice of moral education in schools,combining the traditional character education with other relevant discipline theories,it forms a more effective moral education model,which has been widely supported by the American government and all circles of society.And it achieved remarkable results in all states and schools in the United States.American new character education also has important reference significance to other countries' moral education reform practice.Although China and the United States have great differences in politics,economy,culture,history and so on,their rich experience in moral education is worthy of our study and reference.By studying the new character education in the United States,this paper tries to objectively analyze and summarize its beneficial value and limitations in order to provide useful reference for the effective development of ideological and political education in our country.The first chapter discusses the relevant survey of American New character Education.This paper defines the related concepts of American new character education and analyzes the differences between American character education and American new character education by analyzing the character from the perspective of semantics etymology and the concepts of American character education and American new character education.Based on the social background and the main performance of the rise of the new character education in the United States,this paper discusses the development course of the new character education in the United States.The second chapter discusses the operation process of American new character education.This chapter focuses on the educational objectives and main contents of thenew character education in the United States,and divides the educational objectives of the new character education in the United States into three categories: striving to be qualified citizens of high moral character,strengthening young people's patriotism education and cultivating their good moral judgment ability.This paper discusses the new character education in the United States with the core value education as the main content,and analyzes the core values advocated by the new character education from the national,social and personal levels.This paper makes a limited personal analysis and evaluation of the new character education in the United States,among which its beneficial value is summarized as follows: through advocating student-centered,respecting students' subjective status,and forming educational resultant force through the cooperation and infiltration of various disciplines.By constructing the powerful mechanism of cooperation among school,family and community,the paper emphasizes the construction of school moral education environment,and analyzes some limitations of new character education.The third chapter discusses the enlightenment of the successful development of American new character education to the ideological and political education in our country.From the view of enriching teaching methods to enhance the interaction of ideological and political theory courses in colleges and universities,using social practice to enhance the effective linkage between the first classroom and the second classroom,and paying attention to the co-direction of the value orientation of the diversified classroom in schools,the author points out that the three aspects are enlightenments.By summing up these revelations,the author expects to be able to provide useful reference for the development of ideological and political education in China.
