| Against the background of education reform where curriculum reform is to be furthered and the vision of fostering virtue through education to be applied, the Ministry of Education has proposed the systems of key competence cultivation for students at different learning stages.According to the geography competence cultivation system for senior high school students, the ability to put knowledge into practice is highlighted. However,in traditional teaching scenarios, the imparting of rudimentary knowledge and the strengthening of test-taking ability tend to outweigh the development of practical ability. As one of the basic methods of scientific researches, conducting geographic experiments can arouse students' interest by facilitating their understanding of abstract theories in a vivid manner, and thus is of great significance in enhancing students' practical ability.Based on the practice of teaching geographic experiments, this study attempts to explore the impact of experiment-assisted teaching on the effectiveness of general course teaching. The paper consists of the following seven parts:To begin with,in the introduction part, the general background and the research significance of the study is elaborated to specify the research contents and methodology, with relevant studies at home and abroad referred to.The second part offers a detailed discussion on relevant concepts and theoretical foundations,in which the concepts of geography experiments for senior high school and of effective teaching are defined.By mainly referring to constructivism learning theory, situational learning theory and the learning pyramid theory, this part discusses the categorization and functions of experiments and the characteristics of effective teaching. In the third part, principles for the selection of experiment contents are proposed on the basis of practical teaching experience, and the experiment contents in Geography for Senior High School(Vol.1)by Shandong Education Press are sorted out accordingly. In Part Four, four cases are studied to demonstrate the teaching strategies of four categories of geographic experiments, namely experiments for lead-in,experiments for concept demonstration, verification experiments and knowledge connection experiments. In Part Five, experimental control and questionnaires are conducted to explore the effectiveness of experiment-assisted teaching in senior high geography courses. As demonstrated by the comparative study of performance differences between the experiment-assisted class and the control class,as well as the feedbacks from questionnaires,it is obvious that the academic performance and competence of students from the former are better than those of students in control group, which proves that the experiment-assisted teaching can enhance teaching effectiveness. In Part Six,suggestions concerning experiment-assisted teaching are put forward to supplement the teaching of geography courses in senior high school. It is advised that geography teachers attach importance to experiment teaching and adopt appropriate teaching methods to inspire students to explore geographic issues and thus improve teaching efficiency. In this way,the practical ability of students will ultimately be enhanced. The last part summarizes the main conclusions in this study while pointing out existing problems and future prospects. In a word, based on practical teaching scenarios, this study attempts to explore ways of enhancing teaching effectiveness in senior high geography courses by integrating theories with practice.Hopefully this study could offer relevant reference for geography teachers in locating a way to improve class efficiency and enhance students' practical ability. |
