Homebound instruction is one of the most effective education placement modes for severely and multiple disabled students in China.Advanced areas like some foreign countries and Taiwan in this field of research is relatively complete and the research results on this topic are rich.In Beijing,Shanghai,Anhui,Shanxi,Liaoning and many other provinces and cities in China have been developed homebound instruction step by step, but still there are many problems in the process. The directly reason is that we didn't fully understand the current situation and needs of the educational objects and families before the homebound instruction. The research on the development of homebound instruction educational objects and families' needs is week which one is the most indispensable process in the step of homebound instruction. Therefore, research on educational objects and families'needs is very important and pressing. In this study,semi-structured interview and observation are used to investigate 6 students and their families who are accepted the homebound instruction living in Heping district of Shenyang. It aimed at understanding the development and family status of homebound instruction students and service needs, including:students' basic situation;students' present situation development and the service demand in five areas including sensorimotor, speech and language, independent living, social adaptation and emotion, learning;family basic situation;emphasis and expectations of the main members for homebound students;present situation, problems and needs when the main members send students in daily care, education and rehabilitation training. The results are as follows:(1)Homebound students have severe disability and poor ability and have certain problems in all fields.(2)There is an inevitable link between the development status of homebound students and their development needs, but the overall development needs are far less than their actual development status.(3)Homebound students have the most urgent development needs in the field of independent living, which is directly related to the type and degree of disability of homebound students.(4)The non-nuclear family is the form of many homebound families. Many people live together and most of the families are in poor health and generally have poor economic conditions.(5)Homebound families have a high degree of acceptance of the students, but generally low emphasis and expectations.(6)Grandparents and mothers are the main caregivers of the homebound students, while the father has a low degree of involvement. Most of the primary caregivers need to accompany the students all day long to provide comprehensive care for their daily life, but few families will provide education and rehabilitation training for the students.(7)Homebound families face more difficulties but less needs. They pay the most attention to material and economic subsidies. Some families express their need for professional and skilled guidance.(8)The development and family needs of homebound students are few but far from being met.Based on the above research results, three suggestions are drawn:first, explore the education and rehabilitation methods of homebound students;Secondly, different services should be provided for homebound students with different types of disabilities.Third,we will increase the number of professionals, the number of times and the time to provide homebound services.
