In 1908,the university of Missouri opened the first school of journalism in the world.In the same year,Hin Wong also came to the school to realize his journalistic dream and graduated in 1912,becoming the first Chinese to study in Missouri journalism school and obtain a bachelor's degree.Hin Wong was the first Chinese to receive a systematic education in journalism in the early 20th century.Therefore,his four-year university life is of great significance in the history of journalism.At present,there are few monographs on Hin Wong in the academic circle.This paper tries to take his four-year university study and life as the research topic.This research is mainly based on literature research method,and attempts to supplement the research blank in this field by collecting a large number of first-hand historical materials and reading related literature.There are six chapters in this paper.The first chapter is the introduction,which combs the research literature related to Hin Wong in detail,and finds that there are few researches related to him,which provides sufficient research space for this paper.The second chapter mainly outlines the background and process of the world's first school of journalism with its first Chinese student as the main framework,and introduces the background of Hin Wong before his admission and the special attention he received from the school after his admission as the first Chinese student of the school.The third chapter mainly describes Hin Wong's journalism study in university,taking theoretical study and practical study as two main directions.The former highlights the rich interdisciplinary background and strong specialty of the journalism theory education he received in university.The latter mainly focused on his practice activities in the University Missourian and the Chinese Student's Monthly,both of which were composed of students,reflecting his passion for journalism and his enthusiasm for newspaper practice.The fourth chapter mainly tells about Hin Wong's club activities in university.By describing his active behaviors during his college life,such as establishing the Missouri Cosmopolitan Club,helping to establish the New York club and the Boy Scouts,and serving as an active member in Chinese Students' Alliance in the United States,he shows the image of a patriotic youth who actively learns advanced American culture and carries forward traditional Chinese culture.The sixth chapter is the summary of this research,which summarizes the conclusions,shortcomings and future prospects of the paper.Hin Wong studied for his journalism degree at the university of Missouri from 1908 to 1912.However,as the first Chinese to study in the school of journalism at the University of Missouri and obtain a bachelor's degree in journalism,his four-year study life is the epitome of Chinese students in the United States in the early 20th century,and it is also a typical research model for the communication of journalism education between China and the United States.Based on Hin Wong's journalism theory learning,journalism practicing and community activities,this paper tries to restore the original appearance of his four-year university life and explore the significance of his study abroad,so as to fill the gap in the current research field. |
