Media Spectacle And Cultural Changes In Rural Society

The rapid development of media technology has opened a new page for contemporary social life,and media culture has gradually become the core link between human society,economy,politics,culture and daily life.In the current stage of Chinese society,large and small media companies are flourishing like mushrooms,while mergers and reorganizations between traditional media giants are in the ascendant,and competition is intensifying.Developed communication technology makes the dissemination of visual information easier,more convenient and faster,and at the same time makes the concepts of consumption and entertainment deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.With the spread of new media,the media has created a more gorgeous and refined "landscape society".In the past two decades,the new media represented by the Internet and mobile phones have had a huge impact on people's lifestyles and consumption habits.This impact is not only reflected in cities,but also in rural areas.In the construction of a new socialist countryside,visual symbols such as pictures and videos brought by the new media have gradually become the main source of villagers' information.In this context,the media has created "spectacles" one after another to attract audiences,gain profits and attention.Today,these superficial and attractive “spectacles”are rapidly developing and rapidly spreading in rural areas with a low cultural level,which has triggered changes in life and culture in traditional villages.This thesis takes Mengwei Village,Shuanggou Town,Suining County,Xuzhou City,Jiangsu Province as the object of field investigation,and studies and discusses the main changes in life and culture in the village where the author lived from a young age with the gradual intervention of new media.The study uses the concept of "Media Spectacle" as a theoretical guide.Through field investigations and visits,starting from the history of media development in Mengwei Village,it gradually demonstrates the close relationship between the new media and the "wonder" village appearance of today and analyzes the media spectacles in Mengwei Village and their influence.At present,media spectacles are still fermenting and spreading and the healthy spread of rural culture is facing survival choices.It is imperative to treat digital media correctly,find a foothold in the survival of traditional culture,and improve the media literacy of villagers.
