L County in Yunnan Province is a Yi and Miao Autonomous County.Under the guidance of a series of policies and regulations such as “Two Frees and One Supplement”,“Nutrition Meal Plan”,"Control of Dropping Out of School and Retaining School Status” and full implementation of 12 years of free education,It is rare to see sensitive words such as “dropout” and “dropout rate” in the relevant website of L County's primary and secondary schools,but the fact is that the situation of students dropping out of school during the compulsory education period in Xiu Middle School in L County has not been eliminated overall.The problem of Miao students dropping out of middle school has not been diminished,but more concealed and even intensified.The problem of high dropout rate of Miao students in Xiu Middle school in L County is a chronic educational problem,no matter how preferential policies and regulations are adopted in education,no matter how much the school administrators and teachers pay attention to and do the work,once the dropout occurs,it is difficult to persuade the students to come back to school,and the rate of dropout for the Miao students is still very high.It can be ascertained that the poverty of the family economy is the main reason resulting from the dropout of the Miao junior high school students in Xiu Middle School.Moreover,the most potential reason why they drop out of school is that they are affected by their own ethnic early marriage,pilot marriage,internal-ethnic marriage which form their perception of family and marriage.Therefore,this study starts from the objective factors such as the history and culture,folk customs and geographical environment in Xiu Middle School,takes it as a case study for its largest population of students in L County,studies 8 dropout students and the students who have had such experience,to explore the reasons for dropping out of school further.Due to Miao's the free marriage within their own ethnicity,it leads to the isolation from the other ethnicities relatively.Hence the methodologies of interview and literature would be more effective to analyze the reasons for the dropout of the Miao junior high school students in Xiu Middle School.After collecting and writing of research materials,some chapters use the impression story telling method of qualitative research method.Many obstacles such as language barriers,early marriage customs,small settlements,marriage and simple communication within their own ethnicity have exerted great influence on Miao students.Furthermore,the school has not deep insight into the policy of controlling and maintaining school status,and there exist discrimination to Miao students from teachers and other ethnic students etc.When suffering difficulties and integrating into the school environment,those Miao students are more likely to drop out of school.Additionally,because of the overall low level of education in L County,Miao people are very content with things as they are,and reluctant to move forward,which makes them actively give up their development opportunities and pursue a stable family life like their ancestors even though the society develops rather quickly.Although this study proposes some detailed suggestions for solving the dropout problems of the Miao students in Xiu Middle School,the prerequisite for real problem solving is to depend on the efforts from the school,teachers,parents,society,and Miao students themselves.On this basis,the implementation of these recommendations will be more effective.Strengthening the studies of the related policies of controlling and retaining school status should not just pay attention to the dropout rate data,but to explore the reasons for the dropout of the Miao junior high school students,respect and understand them,and continue to pay attention to the practical problems of this education,which can serve as a reference for the solution of the dropout problems of the junior high school students in L County.For the dropout problem in other regions,to some extent,it can be reference for in research content and direction.
