The Intervention Of Social Work In The Psychological Problems Of Children With Leukemia

What poses a great threat to the life and health of our children is the Leukemia.In recent years,the amount of the children who are suffering from leukemia accounting for about 50% of the total number of leukemia patients in China,and it is increasing at the rate of 30,000-40,000 per year.With the continuous progress of medical technology in China,more and more children with leukemia can maintain their lives,but leukemia will not only bring great pain and suffering to the physiological level of children,but also cause a huge blow on their psychological level.Expensive medical costs also impose a heavy financial burden on the families of the children.These pressures can seriously reduce the quality of life of children with leukemia and their families.Long treatment cycle,repeated and closed treatment,much pain needed to suffer,are the main features of the Leukemia treatment.When the kids facing the fear and the side effects of chemotherapy,they would show some negative emotions,such as restlessness,silence,depression and so on.Being with these,the kids who are of the Leukemia would lead to physiological and psychological abnormalities and even affect their lives.Therefore,paying attention to the treatment and counseling of children with leukemia will help children to obtain comprehensive health,thereby improving the quality of life of children with leukemia.As a social worker of Wuhan Love Dream Public Welfare Organization,I participated in the project of “Tongji Hospital Love Classroom”.Through six months' observation and intervention of children with leukemia,I obtained vivid and authentic first-hand information.Combine the information with my specific intervention services,discussing and reflecting on the Intervention Process,to analyze the difficulties and challenges faced by medical social workers when intervening in psychological problems of children with leukemia.This study found that the influence of physiological diseases,changes and limitations of the environment,interruption of learning and life,overprotection and obedience of parents,overuse of Internet media are important factors leading to psychological problems in children with leukemia.The change of life course of leukemia children lead to four psychological problems: the weakening of emotional self-control,the increase of bad behavior,the withdrawal of social interaction and the decrease of self-awareness.Medical social workers are facing difficulties such as shortage of medical social workers,insufficient self-ability,unclear orientation of medical social workers,low social awareness,neglect of psychological factors by parents.Lack of specific cases,single intervention mode,insufficient extension of activities and low professional level of social workers are also problems to be solved urgently.In view of the above difficulties and problems,I carry out a comprehensive discussion,and finally puts forward targeted countermeasures and suggestions from the micro,meso and macro levels,trying to find effective methods and appropriate ways of social work intervention from the psychological and behavioral problems of children with leukemia.
