The Plight Analysis Of Medical Social Work Intervention In Leukemia Children And Their Families

Leukemia is a common malignant tumor in children.Children always suffer from both physical pain and psychological stress during the process of treatment.With the continuous development of medical technology,the curing and counseling to psychological and social problems of the children or their families were paid more and more attention.The emergence of medical social work not only satisfy the people to this need,but also gradually become an indispensable component of modern medical procedures.The study on the basis of social work service to children and their families with leukemia from my own,was aimed to reflect on the practice process,using the embedded development theory to analyze the difficulties and challenges of medical social work intervention to children and their families.The study found that medical social workers may face these difficulties during their service to leukemia children and families when embedded in the original health system.There are mainly several aspects: first,medical social workers’ practice ability is insufficient as the subject of embedded,low professional identity and social awareness,etc.Second,there was limited space for medical social work embedded in the hospital system and the low recognition from clients’ view.Third,it maybe exist the phenomenon of selective service including choosing clients for convenience,and the intervention of medical social work may lose its fidelity.Forth,the intervention effects of medical social work was not obvious and workers’ autonomy was also limited from the point of embedding effect.Finally,for solving these difficulties,the development of medical social work in practice are discussed.It should be paid more attention to enhance the professional education of social work.Optimizing the way of cooperation between social worker and doctor aims to provide better service for leukemia children and their families.Furthermore,based on the previous model,the collaborate of social worker and volunteer,it could be discussed to build a new practice model,the trinity of hospital,its social work department and social organization.
