Childhood leukemia is a class of malignant neoplastic diseases of the hematopoietic system and is the malignancy with the highest incidence in children in China.Children with leukemia experience both physical and psychological discomfort during treatment, which makes them oppose and avoid it.This results in unfavorable treatment feelings, which are not helpful for the treatment to be effective.Focusing on the group of children with leukemia and increasing their compliance can help to lessen their treatment challenges,as well as contribute to the practical research of social work intervention in children with leukemia and,to a certain extent, advance the development of social work in the medical field. It can also help to lay the groundwork for social work to investigate the service model of medical multi-disciplinary teams. This study was conducted on children with leukemia in Hospital F.Data were collected through observation and interviews to explore three key questions: the manifestations of insufficient adherence in children with leukemia;the causes of poor adherence in children with leukemia;and how to improve adherence in children with leukemia by conducting group work under the guidance of social learning theory? In children with leukemia, poor adherence to therapy, poor adherence to medicine, and inadequate adherence to lifestyle were shown to be the main manifestations of non-adherence.Five reasons for the non-adherence of children with leukemia were examined from the cognitive and environmental perspectives of social learning theory: first, improper understanding of the disease by the child and caregivers, second, skewed perception of the role of medical personnel by the child, third, negative emotions of the child during the process, fourth, incompatibility of the child with the closed medical environment, and fifth, inadequate care by the caregivers. On the basis,we designed and conducted a five-session adherence group based on social learning theory, with the group themes of Wonderful Healing Journey,Cute Body,Emotional Monster,I am a Little Doctor, and Little Man Craft.Through the work of the adherence group for children with leukemia, children’s disease knowledge was supplemented, peer social circles were expanded,parent-child support was enhanced, and the adherence of children with leukemia to treatment, medication and lifestyle was improved to varying degrees. |
