| China is the center of education for thousands of years.It attracts a flow of international students every year.With the rapid increase of international students in China they also face challenges while studying abroad in the different sociocultural environment,especially postgraduate research students who experience difficulties in an unfamiliar and vastly change study environment.This study aimed to explore the research experiences of foreign postgraduates,the factors influencing their experience and the impact of research experience factors on their overall research in China.A total of 404 of foreign research degree students from all Chinese's universities are sampled.The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey(PRES)is administered online to gauge the research experiences of foreign postgraduates.This study utilized mix methodologies i.e.qualitative and quantitative both.In order to explore the supervision,research resource,research culture,progress and assessment,responsibility,research skills,professional development and opportunities shaping the research experiences,the effect of the demographic factors On the research experience factors,the questionnaire survey as the quantitative technique is adopted.Also,the impact of these research experience factors on their overall research are explored.The responses obtained are analyzed through SPSS version 19 by descriptive,correlation,difference and regression analysis.Similarly,the semi-structured interviews as the qualitative technique are conducted to explore the issues that a foreign postgraduate researcher faces regarding research supervision,resource,research culture,progress and assessment,responsibility,research skills,professional development,and opportunities.Convenience sampling is applied and twenty five foreign postgraduate students from various fields of study are interviewed.The responses of the interviews are analyzed through content analysis.The findings show the significant differences between overall satisfactions of the students on their research experience.A significant relationship is found between all the research experience factors.A demographic variable such as degree program has a positive impact on the research experience of the foreign postgraduate students.The Study on the sex effect on the research experience is found to be insignificant at the overall level.It is also found that the foreigner postgraduate students in China have not the same rate of research experiences,in their educational field at overall level.The results of the regression analysis revealed that the research experiences of foreign postgraduate students affect their overall experiences.The interview findings support the question of exploring the foreign postgraduate student's rate of satisfaction in their research experiences.The interpretation of the interviews revealed that the teacher's non-availability,office work,lack of communication,lack of knowledge,interest and feedback,lack of research resources,and inadequate research skills opportunities are problems of foreign postgraduate students.In short,the inadequate research facilities regarding their research are the common complaints of the foreign students.Therefore,the findings of this research is a wakeup call to the rising number of Chinese universities to focus on need oriented research services regarding strengthening the research experience of foreign students.Also,it signifies to resolve the issues of foreign academic researchers so as to deliver a competitive,skilled and satisfied yield which uplifts their universities brands in the international universities'rankings. |
