Academic language,as the core factor of affecting the specialized learning of graduate students studying in China,is closely related to specialized learning. With the speeding up of the internationalization of higher education, the number of graduate students studying in China is increasing.Accordingly, with the expansion of the scale, the difficulties caused by the inadequate preparation and inadequate ability of academic language in the process of specialized learning of graduate students studying in China have gradually become prominent, and need to pay urgent attention to it.While, there are few related studies,Therefore, the study selects this point which is important but lack of concern to make a deep research. This study focuses on the influence of academic language on the specialized learning process of graduate studying in China, and it mainly discusses the following aspects:(1)In the process of specialized learning adaptation,do postgraduates studying in China feel the impact of academic language problems?(2)How does academic language affect the specialized learning process of overseas graduate students? The purpose of this study is to penetrate into the inner world of the study’s objects, and to understand their specialized learning situation from their personal stories of overseas graduate students. Therefore,by using the method of narrative inquiry, this paper makes a deep description and explanatory inquiry into the personal specialized learning experience and learning state of six overseas students who come to China to study for the Master of Chinese program in a university. On the basis of it,this paper rethinks the problem of graduate education in China, and thinks about how to make graduate students break through the academic language difficulties and smoothly go through the specialized learning journey. The research finds that the specialized learning of graduate students in China is not as easy as imagined, and they are impacted by academic language at different stages of specialized learning;Regardless of their HSK grade 4 or 5 scores, the impact of academic language is almost the same when they first come into contact with professional classes taught in Chinese; While, undergraduate and graduate students who have a small span of study in these two stages have a better specialized learning situation than those with a cross-disciplinary postgraduate education, and it is more difficult for them to overcome the obstacles of academic language. What’s more, academic language problems not only affect the construction of their professional knowledge system, but also affect their learning psychology, emotions, attitudes and learning behavior.Compared with overseas postgraduates majoring in science and engineering, academic language problems are more difficult to overcome, and foreign students majoring in liberal arts face more difficulties in specialized learning and are more likely to have negative emotions or psychological problems.Although their Chinese proficiency and professional span at undergraduate and postgraduate stages are directly related to the difficulty and speed of their specialized learning adaptation, whether they can overcome language barriers as soon as possible and achieve good learning results actually depends more on their own actions.learning attitudes and behavior patterns of learning subjects.
