Study On Cultural Basis Of General Education Modes

General education is becoming popular in China for the purpose of cultivating moral civics and "whole people" with meaningful life in the ever changing world.After the past few decades of exploration and reform,we have achieved initial success in curriculum design,teacher selection,teaching organization,curriculum management and other aspects of general education.However,due to the neglect of cultural,our general education still has a gap with western developed countries.Cultural is the basis for our understanding the nature of general education and the differential of the general education modes.Seen from the general education in the world,we can conclude three education modes:the course mode,residential liberal arts college and invisible general education mode.The course mode is based on the class,whose development influenced by liberalism,pluralism,progressivism,perpetualism,capitalism and the Industrial Revolution.It aims to respect students'subjectivity and cultivate their common sense.Residential liberal arts college is based on centralized management colleges,which is organized by formal and informal teaching methods.The liberalism,centralization is mainly cultural basis of this mode.Invisible general education is flexible,changeable and widely applied,which is influenced by multiculturalism and the culture of the open education system.The development of general education cannot be separated from the influence of cultural.Although there are some similar cultural bases in different modes of general education,every general education mode remains differences.Therefore,we would like to take the following points into account in further general education reforming.First,we would pay attention to the domestic cultural basis of general education and absorb the exotic excellent culture.Meanwhile,we would pay attention to the communication and integration between the multicultural.In addition,the universities need to build cultural ecological mechanism,enhance general education teachers'humanistic quality and general education consciousness.The courses need pay attention to the cultivation of student's correct cultural viewpoint,to strengthen the cultural connotation of general education content,and guarantee the quality of general education in the implementation.
