Modern general education is evolved by the classical liberal education.Recalling the history of the evolution from liberal education to general education,as well as general education carding process of the 20th century to the 21st century general education reform in the context of globalization,information technology background.The study found that general education is always intertwined with the historical and cultural traditions of different countries and cultural characteristics University,Educational Philosophy Schools and experienced different direction and path,and the formation of a different general education goals curriculum models and theoretical schools in the complex and changeable society background,general education which has been growing hardly in a variety of complex,intense,contradictory cultural game,has become an important development of higher education landscape in modern times especially in the 20th century.And whither general education in the 21st century?This is not only targeting the development of university general education itself,but also will directly affect the 21 Century College Goes,and thus the future development of human civilization produce the value-oriented which is subtle and can not be ignored.Domestic and international paper works about the general education as voluminous.This paper chose the "Whither General Education in the 21st Century?"problem as the main direction of this era,used the methodology of history and logic unity and was combined with case study approach to reveal the inherent contradictions and inherent logic General Education Development.And as a guideline,thinking and exploring the future direction of General Education in the 21st Century.This paper presents the first chapter in question:What is an educated person in the 21st century?Whither General Education in the 21st Century?Chapters ?
