With the increasing expansion and popularization of higher education,colleges and universities have more and more demands for higher education funds.At present,the cost-sharing mode of higher education,which relies mainly on financial allocation,can hardly meet the needs of higher education.Compared with foreign higher education institutions,where social donation from individuals and institutions account for 10% of the educational funds,China's social donation funds account for less than 3%.For colleges and universities,understanding the important influence and mechanism of social donation in their development process,so as to attract donation more actively and use donation more effectively,which can not only alleviate the pressure of insufficient funds,but also better promote the development of colleges and universities.This study aims to explore the influence of social donation on the development of universities,and to provide a reference for the rational allocation of donation resources in universities.Firstly,the hypothesis is put forward through the analysis of the social donation income data of the University Education Foundation and related theoretical literature.Secondly,the multiple mediating model of the impact of social donation on the development of universities is constructed,and the Bootstrap method is used for empirical test.Then,this study takes into account the lag of the impact of social donation,and carries out robustness test.Finally,based on the perspective of the different university types and concentration degree,this study makes an extended analysis.Research results show that:(1)social donation has a significant positive impact on the development of universities through the two mediating paths of school-running resource and university reputation.And the mediating role is the most significant in the current period,with the increase of investment year,the impact of social donation is becoming smaller and smaller.While the indicators of talent cultivation and scientific research ability representing the construction level of world-class universities have no significant mediating effects between social donation and university development.(2)The mechanism of social donation to universities with different types is different: besides the indirect role of mediating paths,the social donation of comprehensive universities has a direct effect on university development,but the indirect effect is still dominant.For non-comprehensive universities,the social donation only indirectly promotes the development of universities through university reputation.(3)For universities in areas with high degree of concentration,school-running resource and university reputation paths play a full mediating role;but universities in areas with low degree of concentration can directly promote university development in addition to the two influencing paths of school-running resource and reputation.This article consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which analyses the topic bases,literature review,research methods and other contents.The second chapter puts forward the hypothesis based on the theoretical analysis and practical deduction.The third chapter constructs the index system of mediating variables and multiple mediating model.The chapter four is empirical analysis,including the main study of mediating effect test,robustness test and conclusions ductility analysis.The fifth chapter is the conclusions.
