The excellent traditional Chinese culture embodies the collective wisdom and spiritual pursuit of the Chinese nation,and it is a spiritual resource with long history and great potential.In recent years,more and more attention has been paid to the excellent traditional Chinese culture.Strengthening the application of the excellent traditional Chinese culture in middle school geography teaching is conducive to the implementation of core geographic literacy and the fundamental task of fostering character and civic virtue,cultivating socialist core values as well as enhancing social cohesion.By using the methods of literature research,questionnaire survey and classroom observation,this paper first systematically combs the meaning of traditional Chinese culture,and divides it into four categories: the basic spirit of Chinese culture,literary and artistic as well as scientific and technological achievements,the unique traditional cultural and artistic forms of various nationalities,and various cultural heritage.Secondly,based on the geography book of Shandong Educational Press,this paper analyses the geographical knowledge contained in the pattern of manifestation in excellent traditional culture such as ancient books,lyrics and songs,characteristic folklore,cultural heritage,proverbs,etc.Thirdly,this paper investigates and analyses the application of excellent traditional Chinese culture in middle school geography teaching from five aspects:the object of investigation,the understanding of traditional culture,the present situation and difficulties of traditional culture application in teaching,the commonly used evaluation methods of teachers,and the suitable methods of traditional culture application.It also puts forward the application strategy of strengthening the application of traditional culture,carrying out the study tour to feel the traditional culture,using a variety of teaching methods flexibly,and improving the evaluation of geography teaching.Finally,the teaching case design of "Atmospheric Heating Process",a chapter of compulsory high school geography course of Shandong Educational Press,is used to provide a feasible reference for the application of excellent traditional Chinese culture in middle school geography teaching.
