Basic spatial graphics refer to points, lines and planes in the space. The position relationship among them is an important learning content in high school solid geometry. It is also one of basic contents for students to establish space concept and develop logical reasoning capability. After many educational reforms since the founding of People's Republic of China, the "People's Education Press" has published more than 10 sets of textbooks, which have lasted for a long time. Now,the course of solid geometry has been relatively ideal. The development is sustained,so the experience in the preparation of textbooks in the past will certainly offer a reference for future textbook reform. Therefore, from a historical point of view, this paper sorts out the changes in content setting of basic spatial graphics in high school mathematics textbooks of "People's Education Press" during the period from 1951 to 2007,and summarizes the characteristics of the changes with a view to providing reference for future textbook compilation. This paper takes basic spatial graphics in 10 sets of mathematics textbooks in high school published by People's Education Press since 1951 as main study object.Based on the mathematics course criteria(syllabus)over the years, this paper utilizes such methods as literature research method, comparative research method and graphic method to research the definitions, theorems and introduction of basic spatial graphics in each set of textbooks as well as examples and exercises of the contents.Specific research contents are as follows:Firstly, the paper gives an overview of overall content arrangement of basic spatial graphics. In combination with the era background and the development of textbooks, the paper sorts out the teaching requirements of basic spatial graphics contents in the course criteria(syllabus),and compares and summarizes the changes including content structure setting and numbers of theorems in each set of textbooks.Secondly, the paper divides the content of basic spatial graphics into four parts: “plane”,“line and line”,“line and plane”,and “plane and plane”,sorts out and elaborates such changes as definition, number of theorems, deletion, presentation and introduction in detail, and analyzes the characteristics and reasons of changes.Thirdly, the paper makes statistical analysis on the quantity, type and background of examples and exercises regarding basic spatial graphics in each set of textbooks, and measures the reasoning difficulty of the proving type of examples. In addition, the paper also expounds the characteristics of its changes in combination with the era background and teaching objectives of different periods. Finally, this paper summarizes the change characteristics of content arrangement of basic spatial graphics in mathematics textbooks during the period from 1951 to 2007,and gains enlightenment regarding preparation of textbooks.
