Cracking the bottleneck of the "three rural" is one of the keys to the steady development of China's economy. As an agricultural province with relatively backward economic development in the central region,Shanxi Province has obvious duality and structural imbalance between urban and rural areas.Although the income of farmers in Shanxi Province has been steadily increasing, there is still a big gap compared with urban residents. This paper takes the non-agricultural employment of rural labor in Shanxi Province as the entry point to further explore the problem of farmers' income in Shanxi Province. This paper studies the impact of non-agricultural employment in Shanxi Province on the income of rural residents.Through the analysis of the total amount and composition of farmers' non-agricultural employment in Shanxi Province, industry distribution and gender characteristics, the current development status of farmers' non-agricultural employment in Shanxi Province is clarified. Then, from the three aspects of the total income of farmers, structural changes and the income of urban residents, the current status of farmers' income in Shanxi Province is understood. This paper uses the data from 1985 to 2017 to establish an econometric model, and analyzes the intrinsic link between non-agricultural employment and farmers' income in Shanxi Province through cointegration test and impulse response. The results show that there is a long-term stable cointegration relationship between the two,and non-agricultural employment has a positive impact on the income of rural residents in Shanxi Province. In response to the conclusions, policies and measures such as increasing rural human capital investment, reforming the household registration system, and improving the rural social security system have been proposed to improve farmers' non-agricultural employment capacity, promote the transfer of surplus labor in rural areas, and thus increase farmers' income.
