The campus culture of American excellent primary and secondary schools,which is formed under the influence of American elite culture,is a campus culture with excellent characteristics.It is a long-term accumulation of campus material,system,behavior and spiritual culture in the process of running a school with the goal of cultivating excellent talents.American excellent primary and secondary schools value the training of students' competitive spirit,critical thinking and creativity,which adapt to the development requirement in the era of knowledge-driven economy with new knowledge and technologies emerge one after another.These experiences provide guidance to the development of primary and secondary schools in China,and will be beneficial to the improvement of campus culture construction.This study focuses on the core problem “what are the characteristics of the campus culture of American excellent primary and secondary schools and what can we learn from?”.Specifically,it contains three sub-questions: firstly,what are the characteristics of American elite culture,and what the relationship between it and the campus culture of American excellent primary and secondary schools? Secondly,what are the constitute factors of the campus culture of American excellent primary and secondary schools,and what their distinctive features?Thirdly,what are the reference functions of American excellent primary and secondary school campus culture to the improvement of the construction of Chinese campus culture,and what conditions should be created when drawing lessons from their rational core?To solve these three problems,this study is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction.Firstly,the reasons for the topic and the main problems of the study are introduced and the significance of this study is expounded from theoretical and practical aspects.Then,the concept of culture,campus culture and the excellent primary and secondary schools are defined.In addition,the current research on the classification of campus cultural structure,the connotation and characteristics of American campus culture,and the construction and problems of campus culture in primary and secondary schools in China are analyzed through a review of domestic and foreign literature.This study mainly adopts the literature analysis method,the case study method,and the factor analysis method,combined with the characteristics and the forming reasons of excellent primary and secondary schools,to provide reasonable and contextual suggestions for the construction of campus culture of primary and secondary schools in China.The first chapter of this study,which explores the American elite culture and its impacts on campus culture.The characteristics ofAmerican elite culture are extracted by the elite culture view of Emerson and Dale Carnegie.The influence of American elite culture on American excellent primary and secondary culture is illustrated from three dimensions: the training objectives and the concept of running a school,the content of curriculum,and the training methods and norms of behavior of teachers and students.The two to four chapters of this study,which is the key part.In the second chapter,from four dimensions concerning school spirit and idea,school architecture and education space,education system and school norms,the behavior of teachers and students and campus activities,the content of the campus culture of American excellent primary and secondary schools is analyzed comprehensively from four levels: the campus spiritual culture,material,system,and behavior.Based on it,the third chapter analyzes the characteristics of the campus culture of the American excellent primary and secondary schools.Then,the fourth part explores the external conditions of the formation of these characteristics from four dimensions: religious tradition,ruling-by-law thought,national culture and the need of the new age.The fifth chapter of the study,which probes into the rational core of the campus culture of American excellent primary and secondary schools,and draws the conclusion: the campus culture in primary and secondary schools in China should take on the mission of the time;encourageindependent,creative,cooperative and united individuals;expand their international cultural horizon.
