When learners learn Chinese language,they will definitely encounter new words.However,learners with less vocabulary will find it difficult.Every time they encounter a new word,they will try to find the meaning in dictionary consequently,it makes them depended on the dictionary.Moreover,it sometimes even make them cannot read Chinese character smoothly.In fact,when they have to do the reading exam,they get no chance to look up the dictionary.Students having lack ability to guess words can hardly jump through the obstacles to read,thus affecting the improvement of reading performance.Hence,word guessing is one of the reading strategies that students should have.The research methods use in this paper are questionnaire survey,language test and data analysis.This paper through the form of questionnaires,investigates student's word guessing awareness,including the habits and attitudes of the high school students in Indonesia in Chinese reading and whether the students think that students themselves,teachers and textbooks are main factor that affect high school students' use of word guessing.While doing the questionnaire,this study also tests the situation of the correct and effective use of guessing methods by Indonesian high school students without a dictionary by guessing the meaning of the words in test.The results of the reading test are consistent with the results of the survey.It shows that the frequency of the testers who think they often try to guess words when they encounter new words is related to the correct rate of reading tests.The stronger students try to guess the words,the higher of correct rate they make.Based on the results of the survey,among the factors that influence words guessing strategies in Chinese reading for Indonesian high school students,learners guessing awareness have the greatest impact on their use of word guessing.The introduction part of this paper introduces the reasons for the topic selection,literature review,research foundation and the research methods.The main body of the thesis is divided into four parts.The first chapter is the design of questionnaires and reading guessing tests,including research objectives,research objects and survey test descriptions,questionnaire design and reading guess test design.The second chapter is the statistics and analysis of the survey results.This chapter includes the reliability and validity test of the questionnaire.The survey results are collected from the three aspects;students,teachers and textbooks,and statistical analysis of influencing factor of words guessing strategies in Chinese reading for Indonesian high school students,which summarizes Indonesian high school students' main influencing factor of words guessing strategies in Chinese reading.The third chapter is the test results and analysis of Chinese reading.This chapter undertakes the investigation and analysis of the second chapter,and verifies the influencing factor of words guessing strategies in Chinese reading for Indonesian high school students through reading tests.The fourth chapter is the teaching suggestion.Based on the analysis of the influencing factors mentioned above,some suggestions for teaching and learning are given to Chinese learners and Chinese teachers in high school in Indonesia.I hope that Chinese learners and Chinese teachers in Indonesian high schools can have certain reference significance.
