Under the impact of the globalization and intrusion of fast food culture,the younger generation of Malaysian Chinese has gradually become less acquainted and have limited knowledge of their own traditional Chinese culture.Due to the insufficient teaching hours at school and the pressure on students' academic performance,teachers will rather invest more effort in the instrumental value and examination skill while ignoring the component of traditional culture in language teaching even in the Chinese independent secondary school which has stronger traditional cultural environment.This has caused the teaching of Chinese language merely becomes a tool within the context of exam-oriented education.This teaching method is not only less constructive to students'mastery skills of the language,but also to the inheritance of traditional Chinese eulture withinthelocal Chinese community.In order to reach the goal of inheriting excellent traditional culture and improving students' moral development,it must begin from education.By saying so,secondary school level is a crucial stage to shape students' personality.At that stage,it is necessary to strengthen the understanding and learning of traditional culture as well as to incorporate traditional culture in Chinese language teaching.Thus,the analysis of traditional cultural component and teaching research is obviously crucial.This thesis is a work based on six "Chinese" textbooks for Chinese Independent Secondary School published by The United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia(Dong Zong).It analyzed the content of the ancient Chinese poetry and chapters in the textbook,and sorted out the traditional cultural component embodied in it.This thesis is divided into five parts:First,the introduction.It reviewed the research background,the significance of the research topic particularly on the current local and overseas research;and the research direction to fill the gaps in the subject,to provide a theoritical backbone for this writing.The second part is the definition of the core concept;it explained the definition of culture,the component of traditional culture and the compilation of the six "Chinese" textbooks for Chinese Independent Secondary School.The third part then evaluated the traditional cultural component of the ancient Chinese poetry from the textbooks,looking at its moral ethics,life values,political ideas,humanistic feelings and traditional artistic skills.It is found that the selection of ancient poetry texts has concrete multi-element and classical,and the selection of texts conforms to modem values,which is beneficial to improving the quality of Chinese language and aesthetics.However,there are also some shortcomings in the compilation of light literature and selection of units.The forth part is the student survey,which looked at the attitudes of Chinese Independent Secondary School students in Malaysia towards traditional.Chinese culture,and the views on-ancient Chinese poetry in the "Chinese"textbooks and on the ancient poetry teaching.Finally,the fifth part is to integrate the analysis of the traditional Chinese cultural component of the ancient Chinese poetry from the "Chinese" textbooks and the results from the student survey.It proposed the corresponding suggestions for the teachers to incorporate traditional Chinese culture of ancient Chinese poetry in teaching.In the conclusion,it summarized the research,and again emphasized on the ideological implementation of the traditional Chinese cultural component in the ancient Chinese poetry teaching,which plays a crucial role in development of students' moral sentiment,life value,as well as on cultivation of values.
