STEM education is the abbreviation of science,technology,engineering and mathematics.It emphasizes the integration of these subjects and aims to cultivate students' abilities of practice and innovation through solving practical problems.In order to meet the need of innovative and skilled talents in China,it is necessary to carry out STEM education.The General High School Biology Curriculum Standards proposes to promote the formation of students' core qualities by focusing on the links between disciplines.All of these show that STEM education is of great practical significance for senior high school biology teaching.This research uses the literature analysis method to sort out the research status of STEM education at home and abroad,and analyzes the practical research status of STEM education in biology teaching.Through questionnaire survey,the current situation of biology teaching in senior high school was investigated,and the results showed that,teachers mainly used problem-guiding methods in teaching;most of the students had a certain interest in biology learning,but they did not realize the importance of learning biology for their future work and life.At the same time,most of the students hope that they could make some improvement in their abilities on problem-solving,hands-on practice,experimental design and model building,and so on through the study of biology course.However,only a small number of them achieved the exception by learning biology.STEM education has a positive effect of on personnel training.Under the characteristics of Biology,rebuilt the STEM teaching model,which is based on the problems appeared in the investigation results and a STEM teaching model constructed by Haiyun Cai.Teaching cases based on the reconstructed STEM teaching model was then designed,the senior grade one students of Hanjiang High School of Jiangsu Province were studied as the research object.The research on biology teaching practice based on STEM education in senior high school was carried out,which was aimed to make up the deficiencies in the traditional biology teaching on students' subject understanding,problem-solving consciousness,ability training,and so on.According to the analyses of students' learning achievements,the questionnaire of teaching effect and the contents of teachers' interviews,the following conclusions are drawn as follows:1.The teaching of biology combined with STEM education is conducive to increase students' interest in biology learning2.Compared with traditional teaching,students can improve their abilities on the cooperative inquiry,experimental design,hands-on practice,expression and communication through biology teaching based on STEM education even more;it is also conducive to the formation of core literacy of students by this teaching.3.Senior high school biology teaching combined with STEM education can promote students' understanding of what they have learned,enhance their awareness of applying the knowledge of multiple related disciplines to solve real life problems.This study enriches the practical research of STEM education in high school biology teaching,in order to lay the foundation for further education researchers to carry out practical research,and provides relevant reference for the teaching staff to carry out high school biology teaching practice based on STEM education.
