Study On The Social Work Intervention Of The Floating Children's Urban Adaptation

With the deepening of reform and opening-up in China,the process of urbanize is faster and faster,a large number of rural people moved to cities and became the emerging group.We usually call them the peasant-workers.Since the late 1990s,the peasant-workers' wives and children used to follow them.Chinese population movement has changed from the individual mobility into the family migration.With the change,the floating children emerged and they will be the constructors and masters of the city.The condition of the floating children is closely related with the social harmony and stability.Floating children are immature and lack of social experience in the early stage of socialization.It is difficult for them to adapt an unfamiliar environment in the city without effective guidance and supervision.Social work is devoted to serving the disadvantaged groups in society.In the helping self-help concept,social work can support the floating children and help them solve the adaption problems.It can promote the development of the floating children',s adaptability to lay the foundation for their rest lives as well.Besides,the research can expand the field of social work,rich the theoretical and practical experience of Chinese social work and promote the development of Chinese social work.The study is in case of X community in hefei.After reviewing literature,interviewing the floating children and a participatory observation,the author learns about the situation of the floating children in X community which based on analyzing the available information of the community.The author analyzes that the main adapt problems the floating children encountered are reflected in the following aspects:Firstly,the psychological condition of floating children is not well,they are not confident and unable to regulate their bad emotion.Secondly,they are lack of social communication skills and can not get well along with their parents and peer group.Thirdly,they have learning problems and lack of correct learning methods.Finally,they are not familiar with the city which they live and lack of urban identity.In response to this situation,the social worker uses the group work to intervene in the floating children's self-awareness,emotional cognition,parent-child relationship,peer relationship,learning barriers and the recognition of the city.Social worker designs six group activities to help the floating children solve the adaption problems,to promote their urban adaptability and individual socialization.Besides,it aims to enhance their social functions and promote them to adapt to urban life and become the positive roles of their lives.After the intervention,the social work evaluates the process and result of the group work,understands and summarizes the effectiveness of the intervention.At last,it concludes that the professional method of social work can be effective and the intervention method of group work can solve the problems of urban adaptation of floating children and improve their adaptive abilities in the city.At the same time,the social worker always plays an important role in the process of the intervention.To a certain extent,the intervention of social work in the urban adaptation of the floating children has certain effects.There are also a series of problems among the process of the intervention.First,insufficient preparation before the intervention.Second,single intervention method.Third,lack of professional ability.Fourth,insufficient community support;Last,lack of professional and assessment methods.In response to these problems,the author puts forward the suggestions to improve the service.First,refine the group mode.Second,apply various working methods.Third,strengthen social workers professional construction.Fourth,develop a professional assessment system.Last,construct a social support system.The suggestions can provide a reference for practical activities in the future.
