With the continuous development of welfare service in China, large amounts of organizations are constantly emerging, which give attention to the disabled and aim to improve disabled people’s quality of life so that they can integrate themselves into society. As a particularly vulnerable group and by reason of congenital physiological defects and social cognitive bias, mildly mentally handicapped young people apparently fall behind their peers in the aspect of social communication, ability to take care of themselves, social adaptation and code of conduct. In addition, their lack of social interactions makes it difficult for them to connect with normal social life.Hence, they need more attention and help from mutual coordination of individuals, families, communities and various parts from society to help the disabled improve their social skills and better integrate into society.Taking the program of "dorm head in our home" for instance, using the method which combines literary research, observational method and interview and based upon reviews of past researches and instructions of theory, this piece of thesis intervenes in the problem of mildly mentally handicapped young people’s social skill by the means of case counseling and group activity.By researching,it was found that the social skill of disabled people has been improved, which indicates that the intervention of social work has yielded positive results. On the basis of extensive researches, this piece of thesis is intended to provide reference for future social work about mildly mentally retarded youth by summarizing and reflecting upon the strategies in the process of intervention.
