The Group Work Intervention On Community Interpersonal Ability Promotion Of The Elderly In Internet Background

The Internet as a social infrastructure,has been expanded quickly,our life have become more and more related to the Internet.However,the elderly,especially the ones in the nursing homes,they have less opportunity to communicate with their family and friends.According to Disengagement Theory,the elderly retreated from the current social role,interpersonal communication,and the whole system of values,it is an inevitable and essential change process of human growth cycle,which causes the elderly to form self-centered and self-fulfilling phenomenon.And this kind of phenomenon has certain influence to the elderly’s relationships to others,therefore,explore group work to use the Internet to improve interpersonal skills has certain research value.This paper takes the elderly from H nursing home in Wenzhou as the research group,using American psychologist Buhrmester’s<interpersonal skills assessment questionnaire>to evaluate the interpersonal main problems of the elderly in H nursing home.Based on the questionnaire,take the ones scoring at 70-90,and divided them into two groups:one group involved group work,and the other one is the control group.According to Activity theory and Empowerment theory,using the method of elderly group work,and designed 6 group activities.The result shows that,by the use of group work in a professional way,it makes the elderly improve two dimensions of self-disclosure and initiating relationships,but did not cover the rest of three dimensions.While we are not sure whether the improvement of two dimensions were related to the use of the Internet,but we can conclude that the group work through Internet can enhance one’s self-disclosure and initiating relationships.After this group work,the writer tries to help out the elderly to form correct cognition of their later life.The writer wants to help the elderly to build confidence,form a positive and healthy life mentality and enhance their interpersonal skills.The writer wants to help the elderly to recognize the importance of interpersonal relationships in daily life.Teach them to use the Internet,to help them to rebuild good community relations,form a new social network,and improve the quality of their later life.In short,the writer approach group work intervention to enhance the interpersonal skills of the elderly in nursing homes,and hope that the implementation of this activity will provide some effective suggestions for the group work in the use of the Internet to enhance the elderly’s interpersonal ability.
