A Study On Bullying Curriculum From American Social And Emotional Learning Programs

In recent years,school bullying has become more and more serious.It effects campus safety and students' physical and mental health.Through reading a large number of documents,it is found that the researches on school bullying in China focus on concept,types and causes.The researches on the solution to solve school bullying,Many authors advocate that we should govern it from the Legal or policy,which is not comprehensive for solving the problem of school bullying.From the perspective of school education,this paper aims to tackle school bullying and enrich relevant researches literature.This study is divided into seven parts.The first part introduces the current situation of school bullying in China and the fact that the United States relies on social and emotional learning programs to alleviate school bullying.It also includes the study of bullying governance and bullying courses from social and emotional programs at home and abroad.The second part is the theoretical basis of the paper.The theoretical basis of this study is social cognitive theory and emotional intelligence theory.The cause of school bullying is that students' cognitive,behavioral,interpersonal and emotional have problems.The third part is the emergence and development of bullying courses.The promotion of bullying courses depend on CASEL,which integrates the research results of several organizations on social and emotional learning skills.After studying several programs of other organizations,three files are published.Two of them are aimed at solving school bullying.This research focuses on these two programs,“Second Step: A Violence Prevention Curriculum” and “Steps to Respect: A Bullying Prevention Program”.The fourth part and the fifth part introduce these programs.Such as teaching contents,teaching strategies of the two programs and so on.They focus on cultivating students' empathy,emotional management,problem solving ability,and support students to establishharmonious peer relationship to avoid bullying.Both programs aim at solving school bullying.The sixth part is the characteristics of the two programs.For example,the curriculum is prevention-oriented.And focuses on application,Because that school bullying happens in life,bullying courses must focus on application,and students should solve the problems around them.To solve school bullying,we also need to pay attention to the importance of parents' participation.The seventh part analyses the China problems about school bullying prevention.such as the lack of teaching materials related to bullying prevention.Moreover,there is a lack of bullying prevention courses.Even though some schools have course on bullying,such as ideological and moral lessons,but they are not taken seriously.In elementary education,we pay great attention to cultural courses and lack the cultivation of students' sociality.In addition,the training of teachers is not comprehensive.To solve these problems,American curriculum provides valuable value of reference for our country,such as publishing bullying prevention books,or setting school-based bullying curriculum in schools.Schools should systematically train teachers about the knowledge of bullying so that they can do their best.Teachers should pay attention to the cultivation of students' emotions,cognition and increase students' prosocial behaviors when they are teaching students.
