The arrival of the "era of picture-reading" makes the image a new resource and means of obtaining information.The modern textbooks contain abundant illustrations and texts.The design of illustrations have a direct effect on the quality of the textbooks.This paper took the illustrations in the advanced Chinese language textbooks of Singapore primary schools,Happy Friends,as the research object,and analyzed the configuration of illustrations in this textbook from the perspective of the artistic design of illustrations and the relationship between illustrations and texts.In the aspect of illustration art design,the illustrations of this textbook have the characteristics of rich color and diversified artistic style.In the art style of illustrations,comic cartoon style takes an absolute advantage.In the aspect of illustration-text relationship,this paper analyzed the relationship between them from the view of match degree and relationship mode.First of all,by combining the relevant opinions of art professionals,this paper put forward the evaluation criteria of illustrations from three aspects:the degree of conformity,the aesthetic tendency of readers and the typesetting design.Besides,this thesis scored the representative illustrations covering all the styles in the textbooks.The results showed that comic cartoon illustrations have higher scores.Secondly,the paper made quantitative analysis on the pattern of illustration-text relation in the textbooks,and the data showed that the redundancy relation appears most frequently.Combined with the above analysis and research,this paper finally illustrated the advantages of illustrations in textbooks and their shortcomings in terms of compatibility and detail processing,and put forward some suggestions on how to optimize illustrations:(1)reasonable use of illustrations of different styles for enriched visual perception;(2)an improvement of the accuracy of text matching in textbooks;(3)paying more attention to the needs of readers and the language level of students.
