With the continuous development of higher education in China,the degree of higher education is gradually increased,and master's degree training continues to expand.As one of the important indexes for evaluating the quality of graduate students,which can reflect the degree of master's knowledge,scientific research ability,academic level and writing and so on.As one of the academic literature that embodies the level of academic research,it can also reflect the trend of research and research hot spots.Topic selection is also the first and key link to determine the quality of the dissertation,which directly affects the value,operability and innovation of the paper.There are many researches on dissertations in academic circles,but there are few researches on higher education masters dissertations.At the same time,studying higher education master's degree thesis can not only make a review of past studies of master students of higher education,but also can guide the direction of research and selection for latecomers.Based on the above considerations and the combing of existing researches,this study chooses to analyze the topic selection of the higher education master's degree thesis in the last decade to enrich the research content and to provide reference for the future masters of higher education.The study selected six colleges and universities with the doctorate degree of higher education in China,which including East China Normal University,Huazhong University of Science and Technology,Southwestern University,Northwest Normal University,the Northwest Normal University,the Southwestern University,and collected 783 postgraduate dissertations of high education in 2008-2017 years as the research samples.On the basis of the existing research and analysis,the literature analysis,content analysis,mathematical statistics and comparative research are used to analyze the research topic,the level of research and the use of research methods,and explore the characteristics and influencing factors of the topic selection of high education master's degree papers in the last ten years.Then put forward strategies and suggestions for optimizing the quality of selected topics.This study first develops research designs for research purposes,and explains the research ideas,sample selection,research methods and analysis of category construction.Then,the author made a statistical analysis on the research topics,research levels,and research methods of the higher education master's degree thesis.The result showed that the topics of the master's thesis were more distributed on the topic of higher education macro management and university management,education evaluation and comparative higher education theme selection is less;At the level of research,there are many topics at the system level and the national level,and there are fewer topics at the level of the curriculum and the individual level;In terms of research methods,the literature and survey methods are used the most,and the theoretical research methods are used the least.Secondly,on the basis of data analysis,this paper summarizes the characteristics of the topic selection of the higher education master's degree thesis in the past ten years.It is characterized by strong universality,strong applicability,strong modernity,and strong multidisciplinary and comprehensive research methods.However,there are also many problems,such as more applied research,lack of theoretical research,wide selection of topical views,lack of research on balance,macroscopic research,lack of micro-study,and more “self-entertainment” topics,insufficient real-life care,lack of methodological awareness and expression are not standardized.The influencing factors mainly include the immaturity of the subject development and research trends,the location of the school,the research direction,course setting,training methods,mentoring ability and energy,master's professional qualities,the ability to choose the questions and masters' values,etc.Finally,aiming at the current situation of the topic selection of Higher Education Master's degree thesis,the author puts forward the countermeasures to optimize the topic selection from three aspects: the training unit,tutor and postgraduate.The training unit should set up the research direction in accordance with the teachers' strength,the research advantage and the maturity of the subject development,optimize the course setting,adjust the course content,attach importance to the academic classics training and cross disciplinary knowledge teaching of the higher education master's students,strengthen the theoretical knowledge and research method teaching,and set the needle for the research direction of the master's students.Targeting the research direction of graduate students,targeted courses should be set up to strengthen research teaching;increase the practical training required links;train master candidates to select topics and practice abilities;strengthen review of dissertations and strictly control the selection of master's thesis themes.Mentors should strengthen the construction of professional teams,improve the academic level of instructors and the ability to select topics.Master students should correct their learning attitude and improve their knowledge accumulation;cultivate scientific research awareness and exercise ability in selecting topics;change research concepts and coordinate the balance of topics.
