With the rapid development of the times,education is also facing constant challenges.Karl Jaspers(1991)has said: "Education aims to perfect the human soul,not to accumulate knowledge and understanding...".With the development of science and technology,the demand for talents is increasingly diversified in the society,employers are more inclined to choose someone who has innovation,a life-long learning abilities and can quickly adapt to a changing society,which highlights the importance of STEAM education.More and more people are beginning to paying attention to STEAM strategy how to employ in daily teaching routine.Based on the analyses of literature,we can know that the research on STEAM education in China mostly stays on the theoretical level,and there are few relevant researches in practice.Firstly,the study analyzed the concepts,theories,principles of STEAM education through literature analysis.Secondly,with the questionnaire survey method,on one hand we know the current situation of students' biology learning and the expectations of the classroom,on the other hand explore some of the high school biology teacher's teaching background,STEAM education's understanding,views and suggestions.Finally,the author sort out the knowledge of the PEP?Biology II—Genetics and Evolution?,then select “DNA is the main genetic material”and“Structure of DNA molecules”as examples for being applied research.In the section “DNA is the main genetic material”,there are four STEAM disciplines to be applied,namely science(S),technology(T),art(A),and mathematics(M).Such as mathematics(M)and Science(S)to be implemented in "DNA is the main genetic material",applied art(A)to offer intuitive and specific feeling for students,etc.,also applied multimedia technology to assist teaching.In the section "Structure of DNA Molecule",there are five STEAM disciplines to be applied,such as applied Arts(A)and Engineering(E)to try to construct a double-helix model of DNA and then validate it through Science(S).Then the characteristics of the molecular structure are implemented,through applying mathematical(M)for the relevant calculation about the principle of complementary base pairing.After showing the instructional design,the author exemplifies the discipline elements applied in the two sections.Results show that:(1)The degree of student participation is related to classroom's interesting.The biological classroom that students like is being interesting and innovative,teaching content relating to life,guiding students to think more,communicate more,giving them a certain amount of space and time to think;(2)Teachers recognize the cross-cutting and penetration between biology and other disciplines;(3)STEAM education can be conducted in a various courses;(4)The application of STEAM education model in biology teaching has certain significance.Finally,based on the survey results,the author propose some suggestions from the national level,school level,and social level in response to the current difficulties in applying STEAM education in China,such as suggestions for teachers:(1)change teaching methods,(2)attach importance to the learning process,(3)change the evaluation method,etc.Hope to provide a reference for the localization of STEAM education.
