A Case Study Of The Role Of The Advance Organizer In Teacher Workshop

The development of teacher becomes the key of education quality and has been seriously concerned recent years.With the importance of teacher development gradually standing out,more and more people including leaders in primary school,high school,university and educators,pay attention to the approach of teacher development.A lot of approaches has emerged in the field of education,but many of them uphold the utilitarian instrumental view of teacher development.On the basis of analyzing the traditional approaches of teacher development,Dr.L from H university has set up four teacher workshops in primary and secondary school and university,and tries to explore a new way to promote teacher development based on the situation of schools and teachers.With the constant promotion of the teacher workshop,the role of the advance organizer has attracted more and more attention.How to effectively run the teacher workshop is closely related to the role of the advance organizer.This study regards teacher workshop as the platform,four stages of the development of teacher workshop as the starting point,Dr.L as the study object,and the life cycle theory and team role theory as the base.It begins at introducing the background of the advance organizer Dr.L and the teacher workshop,then uses qualitative research method to explore the role practice of advance organizer in the teacher workshop through long-term participation and observation.First of all,it expounds the role of advance organizer Dr.L in teacher workshop.Through observation and in-depth interviews to workshop staff,it divides the development process of teacher workshop into preparation,development,maturation and dismissing four stages and investigates the main roles of advance organizer in different stages.Then,it summarizes three main characteristics of the role practice.Secondly,it analyzes the factors of advance organizer’s role in the teacher workshop from the organization,personal and interpersonal relationship of three layers.Finally,combined with the investigation and analysis of factors affecting the role,it puts forward some suggestions from different aspects to improve the role practice of advance organizer.
