Study On Lee Kuan Yew's Higher Education Thought

Lee Kuan Yew is not only the founder of Singapore but also the builder of Singapore's education system,especially Singapore's higher education system.Under his leadership,Singapore's higher education has developed rapidly.From the independence of Singapore in 1965 to 2017,only a few decades,National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University have been one of the most popular universities all over the world.Even some famous European and American universities with long history have been left behind by these two universities that have been the top universities in Asia.Owing to him and his higher education thought,Singapore's higher education can get the great achievement.At the beginning of Singapore's independence,Singapore lacks natural resources and talent resources.In this condition,in order to develop economy,Singapore needs to depend on the talent resources.However,talent resources must rely on education,especially higher education which can supply professional talents for society.He is well educated and has studied abroad.And he realizes that higher education has great importance in training people with great talent.He keeps gathering experience when he guides Singapore to construct and develop its higher education as the leader of it.At the same time,he also borrows other countries' experience,learns from the history and combines his understanding of higher education with himself,which makes his elitism,pragmatism and internationalization higher education thought come true.He puts forward pragmatism higher education aim,attaches importance to the social function of higher education and establishes a system of distributary education,scholarship and bilingual education,which makes Singapore complete its special education system.He and other Singapore leaders set up two universities among the top universities around the world.Lots of international talents are brought to Singapore by him when he promotes the internationalization and the international cooperation of Singapore's universities and develops a large number of talents for Singapore.What's more,Singapore has constructed a vocational education system and has established a lot of applied colleges to train specialized personnel,which keeps promoting the development of Singapore's higher education,economy and society.This study uses literature method,historical method and inductive analysis method to analyze the background,content and influence of Lee Kuan Yew's higher education thought.And I'll try my best to study it in a systematic and scientific way.
