Chinese teaching material is the basis and support of Chinese education.However,current research about the teaching material mostly focuses on the content and teaching methods.The edition of the selected literature works has always been neglected.Published by People's Education Press,The high school Chinese textbook,has excerpted part of Shen Congwen's famous work “border town”.However,the selected content is revised and abridged based on “Shen Congwen's anthology” published by Sichuan People's Publishing House,rather than the original edition or the best edition admitted by the literature field.Based on the example of People's Education Press,this paper reviews and researches the edition selecting and content revising of "border city" in high school Chinese textbooks,aiming to discuss the problem of selecting further classic edition of the novels,looking forward to draw editors,teachers and students' attention on this topic.This paper is divided into six parts:The introduction reviews the reason,the significance,the present situation,the content as well as the method of the research.Chapter one compares the selected excerpt of “border town” in the textbook with other different editions word by word in order to obtain the straight reading information.Specifically,the first step is to compare the excerpt of “border town” in the textbook with the original anthology and list all the modification.Secondly,further analyze why these modifications were made.Finally,compare the original anthology with other editions,and explore the differences.Based on the research of chapter one,chapter two's research focuses on two aspects:First,discuss the successes and failures about the excerpt of “border town” inChinese textbook published by People's Education Press.On one hand,three successes are listed in this chapter.Firstly,refer to other editions,revising the inappropriate places of the original anthology.Secondly,modify the language to appeal to the modern Chinese language grammar.Thirdly,revise punctuation to appeal to the modern Chinese language custom.On the other hand,two failures are as follows.Firstly,abridging and revising kill the continuity of the original literature work.Secondly,over-requiring the correction and completeness of the language kills the personality of the literature work.Second,according to the latest curriculum standard,from the teaching material changing process on the literature work of “border town”,discuss the successes and failures and provide advises on the adjustment of edition-selecting.Chapter three explores the relationship between edition selecting and teaching.Firstly,research the relationship between the new standard of curriculum and edition selecting.Secondly,analyze the relationship between the novel teaching purpose and edition selecting.Chapter four starts prospectively from the view of the editors,the teachers and the students,concluding the meaning of literature work edition selecting in the textbook.The last part is the conclusion.According to the latest standard of curriculum,this paper is aiming to emphasize that no matter modern literature work or ancient literature work,high school textbook should always select the edition which could provide the teacher most space for extending.
