A Study Of Children's And Parents' View Of Play In Nanchang City

We use documentary method,observational method,questionnaire method,interview method,photograph conversation method to investigate 108 kindergarten children in the top class and 561 the children's parents from 6 different kindergartens in Nanchang city about the basic features,the rights,the value,the preference of the children's play and the relationship between study and play.The survey indicates that:(1)Children from different kindergartens have significant different view on children's play rights and have significant difference on the issue“ Prefer playing or learning”.Most children think “Playing can help learning”,but only a few children agree “Playing is learning”.Children's preference in the play types from high to low is : electronic games,constructive games,games with rules,pretending games and sports games.(2)Parents' view of play is good.On the view of play,the mother is better than father,parents from public kindergartens is better than that from private kindergartens,parents from the urban areas is better than that from suburban areas.The score of the view of play increased as the parents' degree and family annual income increases.And the score has significant differences in different occupation.Parents' preference in the play types from high to low is:constructive games,games with rules,sports games,pretending games and electronic games.(3)On the whole,children and parents have the highest understanding on the value of play,however,they have the lowest understanding on the relationship between study and play.From each dimension,children and parents have similarity in the basic features of play;They have differences on the value of play,only in “Play help children's physical development” this item have in common;On the view of children's play rights and the relationship between study and play,parents is better than that of children.In addition,children and parents have differences about the preference of electronic games and the sports games.Electronic games have the highest degree in children,but the lowest degree in parents;Sports game have the lowest degree in children,but the middle degree in parents.For the differences between children's and parents' view of play,this paper put forward the following suggestions.(1)Help children gain positive playing experience;(2)Set up the scientific view of children's play rights;(3)Recognize the value of play;(4)Use children's preference to optimize the play;(5)Advocate father involved inchildren's play;(6)Ensure the time that every day play with children.
