The Realistic Dilemma And Coping Strategy Of Family Support For The Elderly

With the increase of the aging of the population,elderly caring has become a major problem in today's society.Due to insufficient preparations for China to cope with ageing,the old-age care model in the modern sense has not really been established,so the family will still assume the main function of old-age care for a long time.However,after nearly half a century of family planning,declining birthrates and hollowing out families has become a basic social fact.It seems that it is more and more difficult for families to provide for the elderly.So,whether the traditional family old-age care model still has the ability to take care of the old-age care function after rapid aging,and what kind of social support and institutional support is needed for family old-age care has become an important issue to solve the current old-age care problem.Based on the above considerations,this article adopts a qualitative research method,using interviews,participation observations,and literature to collect data,and interviews parents and children of 10 families in Z Village,Zhangjiachuan,Gansu Province to understand the current state of elderly care and the practical problems faced by the family support.The study found that the connotation of family support in today's society has already changed.From the perspective of external performance,the family support function is showing a declining trend.The support of economy is insufficient for elderly.In view of this,families are facing an unprecedented dilemma of old-age care: First,the number of children is rapidly decreasing due to family planning,and the family's old-age resources are scarce;Weakened family support conditions;third,the core value of filial piety culture returned to affection and love,weakened the binding force on the support behavior of the offspring;fourth,the public opinion environment became increasingly silent,the family's individualization and privacy made the family caring lost supported by public opinion.However,faced with the dilemma of old-age care,ordinary families take the initiative to self-adjust,and intervene and alleviate the family support crisis through active family strategies such as "self-care for the elderly","child sharing" allocation of support responsibilities,and the "reciprocity of old-age resources" of relative network.In addition,the bridging of the family'scaring function can also rely on the support of national and social forces.However,the maturity and perfection of the diversified pension service system will be a very difficult and long process.Family support for the elderly cannot be replaced for a long time.Even if the old-age function "failures" and its content changes,the emotional communication,spiritual sustenance and psychological comfort of the old people still need to be realized within the family.Family support is still the ideal way for most elderly people.
