Government's Response To NIMBY Activisim

Since the beginning of XIAMEN PX incident,a series of movements happened in recent years.The government's decision and behavior are put to the test,also question the government's ability to govern.Whether chemical plant site selection or construction of waste incineration plant all may cause damage to the surrounding natural environment,the health of residents and economic property.The strong resistance and resistance of the surrounding residents behavior in the construction process are known as the 'NIMBY movement'.The emergence of the NIMBY causes the local government to suffer tremendous pressure and resistance.It is in a dilemma that eventually leads to the project site selection and construction hindered,which is actually the result of 'double lose'.The essay is based on the recent happening around Shanghai JINSHAN PX events as a starting point.Firstly,the concept and theory of 'NIMBY movement'are analyzed including analytic models.Secondly,it reviews the fermentation process of JINSHAN PX events.Thirdly,it's about the analysis of the dilemma between economic development and environmental governance,and also analyzes the factors of government problems in dealing with NIMBYmovement,and the underlying problems.Finally,based on these factors,the government shows ways how to deal with similar NIMBY movement,and puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions.How to solve the obstacle of adjacent facility location problems and conflicts is particularly important,it has strong theoretical significance and the practical significance about the government to respond on 'NIMBY movement'.
