Abstract/Summary:
The increasingly serious problem of aging has made the issue of old-age care universally valued by all sectors of society. With the improvement of people’s living standards, the elderly have increased social security requirements, involving a wide range of pension needs, and more emphasis on physical and mental health needs, thereby improving the quality of life of the elderly.Based on actual needs, the state actively advocates different ways of providing for the elderly to meet the needs of an aging society and meet the health needs of the elderly. As an important aspect of the way of providing for the elderly, the way of living is closely related to the daily life and old-age security of the elderly, and the daily life and old-age security are related to the health of the elderly. Therefore,we believe that different ways of living may affect the health of the elderly.Based on the above assumptions, this paper uses the 2014 China Elderly Health Influencing Factors Tracking Survey(CLHLS)data to empirically analyze the relationship between living patterns and elderly health. The results show that the health status of the elderly is influenced by the way they live.Overall, older people living with their families have the best health status and the highest satisfaction with life, followed by living alone, while the elderly living in nursing homes have the worst health status.Specifically,in terms of life satisfaction, the living satisfaction of the elderly living alone in the solitary and nursing homes is poor, and the life satisfaction with the family is the best;in terms of physical health, the elderly living in the community and institutions live less, and the health status is good.Poor, while the elderly living alone are better, may be affected by the problem of self-selection;mental health, living with the family is the best, living in the nursing home is the worst, followed by living alone. In addition, the impact of living patterns on the health of the elderly still varies between urban and rural areas, gender and age.Compared with the control group, the rural women living alone lived poorly in mental health and life satisfaction, but they had better physical health. They lived with theirfamilies, and the mental health and life satisfaction of the middle-aged and elderly people were better. The elderly were poorer in physical health. The overall health status of rural, male, and middle-aged and elderly people living in nursing homes is not good. Finally, based on the research results, this paper believes that it is necessary to further increase the supply of aged care services, strengthen social support, improve the national medical pension system, meet their basic needs to improve the health of the elderly, especially paying attention to the elderly in rural areas, women, living alone and low-income seniors;promoting the traditional "filial piety" culture, strengthening family support and security functions, promoting children and the elderly to choose neighbors;mobilizing social forces to participate in the construction of old-age institutions, improving the quality of old-age services;Paying attention to the provision of social public services, increasing the social participation of the elderly, meeting the psychological needs of the elderly living alone, and improving the welfare of the elderly.
