Anti-poverty by relocating in other places is a fundamental measure to solve the poverty problem in areas with poor natural ecological conditions, and is a key way for China to achieve poverty alleviation goals.Since the implementation of this policy in 2001,various regions have actively explored, boldly innovated, and explored various models of anti-poverty by relocating.Scholars in various fields have also conducted multidisciplinary and multi-angle discussions on this topic. This study is from the perspective of immigration, and explores the social adaptation of migrants in the inhospitable areas.A field survey was conducted for immigrants from S village of Shanxi Province.Through a variety of social survey methods,176 immigrants from 70 immigrant families were visited. This paper summarizes the adaptation status of immigrants in S village to resettlement sites from three aspects: economic production mode, social life style and psychological affiliation. On this basis,it summarizes the main factors affecting the social adaptability of immigrants, including individual factor, social environment and policy environment. From the perspective of individuals, the “self-interested” immigration orientation can better exert the subjective initiative of immigrants.Immigrants in the young and middle-aged countries can more actively adapt to changes in the new environment in terms of farming transformation, migrant workers, and community participation.Older immigrants have deeper feelings about their place of residence, and are harder to leave their homeland and not well adapt to the place of immigration. The level of education also significantly affects the ability of immigrants to adapt, and the more they receive education, the better their ability to adapt.About the social environment, the harmony of neighborhoods, the construction and improvement of basic supporting facilities, and the healthy development of related supporting industries have made immigrants moreconfident in moving into the land and more looking forward to future life.In the policy environment,it is necessary to ensure the fair distribution of various social and economic resources and to effectively implement relevant policies in order to better protect the basic life of immigrants and enhance their self-development capabilities. In addition to these, there are many other factors that affect the social adaptability of immigrants, such as the length of immigration. The basic life of the people enhances their ability to develop themselves. Finally, based on the results of the previous survey, the countermeasures and suggestions for helping to improve the social adaptability of the migrants were put forward, with a view to making small contributions to the poverty alleviation and relocation work. The social adaptation of immigrants is not only related to the effectiveness of poverty alleviation, but also affects the sustainable development of immigrants in the place of immigration. The research on this issue not only expands the research field and research direction of sociology, but also hopes to provide new ideas for poverty alleviation and development work in rural poverty-stricken areas, help the benign development of immigrants, and achieve the common goal of a well-off society.
