The thesis emphasizes studies on mutinies waged in troops of Kuomintang(KMT)by Communist Party of China in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces during the Agrarian Revolution(1927-1933).Revolutions were in grim situations after the April 12 th Counterrevolutionary Coup.KMT launched a relentless tide of destruction and killing against communists, workers and peasants to strengthen the reactionary rule across the nation. To save Chinese revolutions,a general guideline to lead an armed resistance against the KMT was defined by the Central Committee of the CPC at the August 7th Meeting(an important meeting in the history of Communist Party of China, held in 1927),and waging mutinies in troops of KMT was taken as a dominant way for armed struggle in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.A batch of Communist Party members including Liu Zhidan,Xie Zichang,Xi Zhongxun and Liu Linpu carried out several mutinies among soldiers in Kuomintang forces under the direction of the Central Committee, which helped grow revolutionary power and lay a solid foundation for the establishment of the Red Army and revolutionary bases in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu, leaving a glorious chapter for history of revolutions at Northwestern China as well as the whole China.Revolutionary bases at border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces had a decisive position in the history about Chinese revolutions and Communist Party of China(CPC).In the process of establishing and developing revolutionary bases, mutinies launched by CPC,as a defining feature, also played an important role. Therefore,it is of great significance to research how the CPC waged mutinies in troops of KMT in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces at the early stage of the Agrarian Revolution. The research contributes to learning about history here with a more comprehensive and objective way.More important, mutinies launched by the CPC in troops of KMT in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces tried to answer, when revolutions were in low tide, two fundamental questions: Whether or not to start revolutions? If yes, how? In addition, the measures are key practices for the CPC in exploring correct revolutionary paths, and embody the United Front Theory of the CPC.In this respect, research on mutinies launched by the CPC in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces,on the one hand,is conductive to making clear the arduous course suffered by the CPC during exploring revolutionary paths and boosting confidence on the socialist road with Chinese characteristics;on the other hand, the research about it is important in enriching the United Front Theory, and providing enlightenment to future work on the united front. At the same time, the Chinese communist members always kept their faith, sought truth from facts, struggled hard and focused on keeping a close connection with the masses when launching mutinies in troops of KMT.All these revolutionary spirits are key component part of the Yan'an Spirit. The inheritance and promotion of the spirits will power realization of rejuvenating the Chinese nation,a dream of all Chinese people. The thesis is divided into four chapters covering introduction, main body and conclusion.Chapter one describes the basis of topic selection, theoretical significance as well as practical significance in details. Moreover,a classified summary to related research are made for mastering the newest study on this topic by academic circles and further preparing for the thesis. At last, research methods, innovations and limitations are mentioned in this part.Chapter two,as the first part of main body, focuses on historical background when the CPC developed mutinies in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu at the early stage of the Agrarian Revolution.First, the author generalizes revolutionary practice during the “Great Revolution”(1924-1927),covering development status of regional organizations which are led by the CPC and activities carried out by local armed forces of the CPC.Moreover,it also describes the political situation in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces after the Great Revolution failed.Counter-communist policies of the Kuomintang in borders areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, and the breakdown of the KMT-CPC cooperation are explained in detail.Chapter three is the second part of main body.It refers to a comprehensive review of guidelines about mutinies waged in troops of KMT in this region, and contains two aspects: “Six Spiritual Guidelines” of the CPC and “White,Grey and Red Revolutions”.Then, the author lists measures for developing mutinies in troops of KMT.For instance, the measures include establishing Party organizations and delivering patriotic speeches in forces of the KMT,rallying support from progressives and people in all walks of life, organizing mutinies in forces of KMT,and creating guerrilla forces to engage in guerrilla wars.Chapter four is the third part of main body.It generalizes elementary experiences and lessons of mutinies launched by communist party members in troops of KMT during the Agrarian Revolutionary War.Lessons we can learn from mutinies waged by the CPC in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces during this period are that we have to persist centralized leadership of the CPC,seek truth from facts, keep a closer connection with the masses, and establish independent armed forces for revolutions. In terms of historical significance, the work on waging mutinies in troops of KMT in border areas of Shaanxi and Gansu provinces at the early stage of the Agrarian Revolution represented active exploration of the CPC for Chinese revolution paths. It facilitated armed struggle in Northwest China and laid a solid foundation for establishing the Shanxi-Gansu revolutionary base area, which provided valuable experiences for the united front work of the CPC and became a key source for the Yan'an Spirit.
