The Impact Of ASEAN Regional Forum On China's National Security And China's Response

The ASEAN Regional Forum,which was initiated and established by ASEAN after the Cold War,is a multi-lateral security cooperation mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region.It adopts the dual-track parallel operation mechanism and has distinctive"ASEAN characteristics." When it was just established,it was widely concerned by countries and regions.As the most influential multilateral security dialogue and cooperation mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region,the ASEAN Regional Forum has exerted an important influence on the security of the Asia-Pacific region and China.For the Asia-Pacific region,the ASEAN Regional Forum advocated and disseminated new concepts of security,enhanced the trust of countries,and increased the controllability of regional security issues.At the same time,due to its large number of members and large differences,it also includes several major countries such as China,the United States,Japan,and Russia.The ASEAN Regional Forum has also become a "game field" for some countries and groups to some extent.China's attitude towards the ASEAN Regional Forum is not static.From the initial hesitation to the subsequent active participation,it reflects the changes in China's foreign policy.Over the years,China has provided support for the ASEAN Regional Forum and affect the ASEAN Regional Forum,the same,the ASEAN Regional Forum also affect China.For China,the ASEAN Regional Forum has provided a platform for China to promote the concept of peace diplomacy,which has reduced the suspicions of neighboring countries on the rise of China.In addition,cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN Regional Forum has increased China's efficiency and ability in dealing with non-traditional security.However,under the influence of ASEAN and some super powers,the ASEAN Regional Forum could interfere with China's security strategy through joint pressure,affecting China's national security,and particularly affecting the South China Sea issue.In order to maintain China's national security and give full play to the positive role of the ASEAN Regional Forum and reduce its negative impact,China should continue to support ASEAN in leading the ASEAN Regional Forum;make the non-traditional security as a breakthrough to promote substantial development of the Forum;promote the Strategic dialogue and security cooperation between the United States;and we must also actively implement preventive diplomacy on the South China Sea issue.
