Since the 1990 s,the rapid economic and social development of our country and the gradual acceleration of social modernization have taken place.At the same time,the aging population of our country has been growing.The number of elderly population in our country has increased and the proportion of the total population has also been on the increase.The elderly population also attends more and more attention.Because of its audiovisual characteristics,the TV drama series has been favored by the elderly and has become an important medium for daily entertainment of the elderly.It is of great significance to study the media image of the elderly in TV dramas because the images of the elders in the dramas play an important role in the self-cognition of the elders and the cognition of the elders by other groups.This research takes the role of the elderly in the family ethics play as the research object,and uses the content analysis method to explore the vicissitude of the elderly in the family ethics drama from the1990 s to the present.The research shows that the image of the elderly in the family ethics drama in our country has changed in two directions since the 1990s: on the one hand,it is a positive change.The proportions of the elderly have been improved,more and more senior citizens have appeared in the play and begin to emerge as the protagonists,and the centralization of the roles has been strengthened.At the same time,the economic status,class status and education of the elderly in the play are narrowing,the concept of family life of the elderly are also more advancing with the times.Combined with the background of social changes in our country,the reason for the positive changes in the image of the elderly is that the image of the elderly built by the TV drama conforms to the trend of demographic changes,changes in social values,economic development and social structure in our country.On the other hand the change is a negative change.The health condition of the elderly in the drama shows a marked decline.More elderly people are confronted with the disease,they need medical treatment and need the care of their children.It is not just the health aspect.According to the data analysis,from the 1990 s to the present drama,the openness of the elderly and the stability of their emotions have declined.More and more elderly people tend to be conservative in their thinking.Their emotions have fluctuated and their family conflicts have become increasingly prominent.Taken together,the overall role of elders in family ethics plays becomes more neutral and negative.The reasons for these negative changes are the weakening of Chinese family ethics and the one-sided status quo of the elderly in our country.All of these are deviating from the trend of social change in our country,so we need to focus on these.
