The Technical Interpreting——Plant Inspection and Seminars on Manufacturing Techniques of A.O.Smith(China)Water Heater Co.,Ltd.lasted from April,2019 to September,2019.The reporter undertook this interpreting project,and received desirable feedback from the clients.During this process,the reporter was encountered with both language and non-language obstacles.The former is reflected in three aspects:unfamiliarity with manufacturing terminology;unclear expression of the source language;fast speaking pace of the source language and information redundancy.The latter is related to the lack of professional background knowledge of the manufacturing technique and interference of on-site environmental factors.Based on the comprehensive analysis of the transcripts and previous research,the reporter proposes corresponding solutions to these problems.The solutions are divided into two parts accordingly.With regard to language obstacles,the interpreter should establish a glossary to learn the manufacturing terminology;supplement and explain the source language to clarify the meaning;summarize and omit the source language to convey the main information.With regard to non-language obstacles,the interpreter should make full preparation for background knowledge of manufacturing industry and use equipment to reduce environmental interference.Based on thorough analysis of first-hand data,this report attempts to provide assistance and reference for interpreters especially who engage in technical interpreting in the manufacturing industry.
