Hu Chenggong(1776-1832),whose stely name is Jingmeng,with a pseudonym Mozhuang,was born in Jingxian,Anhui Province.He passed the imperial examination becoming a Jinshi in the tenth year of Jiaqing Dynasty and was promoted to Daoyuan of Taiwan before retired.Then he rarely went out in order to focus on his writing.His major works include “Mao Shi Hou Jian”,“Xiao Er Ya Yi Zheng”,“Qiu Shi Tang Poems”,“Qiu Shi Tang Anthology” etc.Hu Chenggong spent most his life in Qianlong and Jiaqing periods when textology was very prosperous.In this context,he devoted himself to textology and made great achievements.His “Mao Shi Hou Jian” which has thirty volumes is very conducive to interpretation of The Book of Songs.Also,he participated in Xuannan Poets Organization and launched sacrificial ceremonies for Zheng Xuan and establishfriendships with many celebrities such as Hong Liangji,Hao Yixing,Tao Shu,Chen Huan,Ma Ruichen,Li Zhaoluo,Wei Yuan etc.during the period of being a Beijing official.Therefore,an informative chronicle of Hu Chenggong is not only conducive to understand his thoughts,scholarship and conduct,but also helpful to present the academic evolution and the friendship of ceremonies.However,nobody ever tried to write a chronicle of Hu Chenggong,and few research on his life has been done until now.In this context,a lot of historical materials were consulted to show his whole life in detail.His “Qiu Shi Tang Poems”,“Qiu Shi Tang Anthology” are the main references.Besides,his friends' works,official files,local chronicles and genealogy provide much useful information.The main studies in this paper are as follows :?.Find out his ancestry clearly;?.Investigate and range his activities in whole life by chronology.Write biographies for his friends and attach an index at the last part of the paper.?.Collect his poems and articles which are not included in his books.
