In English teaching in China, learners lack the authentic English language learning environment, and they are mainly exposed to English through text or videos and other materials,of which Chinese written materials account for the largest proportion. The English learners in China learn English basically through reading. In addition,in the various English tests, there are relatively more reading comprehension questions, and the reading scores covers greater part in the examination paper,so teachers and students pay great attention to English reading ability. However,in the current domestic primary school English curriculum, there is no special English reading as a course, and the reading materials in the textbooks are often mixed with a lot of grammar and vocabulary language points, which results in the primary pupils’ poor understanding of English reading,it leads to learners’ poor performance in the examinations.Although English reading teaching has been paid much attention, there are many problems in English reading teaching due to the influence of long-term exam-oriented education and traditional teaching mode.In recent years,a new teaching method has emerged in the field of education, which is micro-lecture.The emergence of micro-lecture introduces new methods to education and teaching, and also provides teachers with a new way to solve problems. However, there are not many researches on micro-lecture teaching mode in English classroom.Combined with relevant domestic and foreign literature, the author analyzes and explores the influence and function of micro-lectures on primary school English teaching, then conducts a practical research on the application of micro-lectures in English reading teaching in a primary school.Based on the constructivist learning theory and the learning motivation theory, under the guidance of previous micro-learning literature and practice, this study aims to explore: 1)Whether the application of micro-lectures to the teaching of English reading can improve primary students’ English reading performance? 2)What are the students’ attitudes towards micro-lectures? 3)What do the English teachers in primary schools think of the application of micro-lecture teaching in English reading? In this study, three research tools are used, namely test, questionnaire and interview. The experiment lasts for one semester among the students in two parallel classes of grade 5 in Zhaojiaying Primary School,Qingshan District,Baotou City,Inner Mongolia, including 36 students in the experimental class and 36 students in the control class. The students’ attitudes towards ‘micro-lecture’,and the views of the English teachers will be collected by means of questionnaire. The application effect will be checked through a pre-test and a post-test.The content of the interviews are recorded by notes and recordings. All of the research results will be analyzed by using SPSS22.0 software. The research results show that: 1)The application of micro-lectures in English reading teaching can improve primary students’ reading performance.2)74%-85% of the students hold positive attitudes towards the application of micro-lectures in English reading teaching.Students think micro-lecture makes their English reading benefit a lot.3)English teachers approve of the positive role of micro-lectures in primary school English reading teaching. The application of micro-lectures can promote primary school English reading teaching and improve the teaching efficiency of reading lessons. The English teachers’ concepts of teaching reading have changed much.Micro-lecture makes English reading teaching more efficient and interesting, and micro-lecture may also bring some enlightenment to the English reading teaching for other front-line primary teachers in the remote areas.
