As the world is becoming increasingly connected thanks to globalization, there is an explosion of growth in academic exchanges between China and other countries. And one of the most important channels to achieve academic exchanges is translating academic works. In fact, since the last century, many scholars in China has started to translate Western academic books into Chinese,in an effort to dispel the darkness of ignorance and widen the horizon of Chinese people;in recent years,as China has born prominent fruits in the international academic community, some Chinese academic works are gradually being translated into other languages. In this case study, the author tentatively summarizes the difficulties inherent in the academic work translation, and accordingly put forward some translation strategies to deal with texts of this kind.Generally, academic works tend to feature profound subject knowledge, lower readability and rigorous academic disciplines. In this sense, the author proposes that three main strategies be applied into the Chinese-English translation of academic works–building background knowledge, enhancing the readability of the translation and following English citation styles.
