Since the economic reform in 1978,a large number of private family enterprises have been set up in mainland China. As of April 2017,there are a cumulative number of up to1,112 family businesses listed on domestic stock exchanges.Hong Kong’s top 15 family businesses held 84% of GDP assets in 2015.The development of private enterprises is of great significance to the development of the economy. Therefore,by studying the business models of successful enterprises, analyzing the challenges faced by enterprises, and striving to learn from their solutions and measures,it is of deep commercial value to explore the successful cases of “invisible champions” in industries like Heraeus. This translation report is on the Chinese-English translation of company advertisements and introductions. The source text is Heraeus Group: Legend of a Century-old Hidden Champion. Its linguistic features are as follows: there are many Chinese short sentences without obvious conjunctions and the sentences are vocative.Considering that there are differences between Chinese and English in syntax and culture, and that a company introduction is an advertised text with a clear purpose, the vocative function of the target text may not be achieved if the translator blindly seeks formal equivalence based on traditional translation theories.Skopos theory, however, offers a new perspective to the translation of texts typical of advertisement like a company introduction.Skopos theory emphasizes the purpose of translation, proposing that the ends decide the means. It is therefore well suited to the translation of a company introduction. This translation report is composed of five parts. The first part is the introduction,it includes the significance and purpose of translating a company introduction. The second part concerns the linguistic features of the source text and its writing purposes. The third part focuses on the brief introduction to Skopos theory and its three rules. The fourth part is mainly concentrates on the C-E translation of company introductions from the perspective of Skopos theory. The fifth part is the conclusion part, including the importance of Skopos theory to the translation of a company introduction, remaining problems and the author’s achievement after the translation.
