A Translating Report On The E-C Translation Of China-U.S.Trade Issues(Excerpts) Based On Communicative Translation Theory

China-U.S.trade war has been in the spotlight since 2018.Both of the two sides are trying to reach commitment by negotiations.The source text,China-U.S.Trade Issues,released by CRS(Congressional Research Service)on 30 July,2018,is a report on China-U.S.trade issues.For the limited time and energy,the translator chose the later part of Major China-U.S.Trade Issues in the report as the source translating text.The translator firstly analyzed the characteristics,functions,focuses and its final intention based on text type theory,and then chose Newmark's communicative translation as the principal translating guidance.The report analyzes and summarizes the employment of translating methods and techniques such as literal translation,zero translation,addition,shift and so on in the process of translating,based on the principles of reader-centered,representing the content and information accurately,focusing on communicative effect and target language of communicative translation,expecting to realize the communicative function.The translating report is composed of five parts in total.The first part is a description of the translating task which aims to introduce the background and significance of the translating project,give a brief introduction about the source text,review the literature on communicative translation,structure of the translating report also included.The second part is theoretical framework in which communicative translation and its applications to informative text are introduced.The third part is about translating process,including preparations before translating,characteristics and styles of the source text and revision after translating.The most significant one,the fourth part,is about case studies encountered in translating practice.Translating methods and techniques used in translating are discussed and analyzed based on the theory of communicative translation.The last part summarizes the whole report,together with some reflections and suggestions for further studies.
